Review of the Patriot
In the text from the Patriot the author highlights many historical inaccuracies, one of those being the fact that in the text the British cavalry wore a red dress uniform. In reality they were given the name Green Dragoons because of the obvious fact a green coat was worn during battle. Another misleading fact in the movie The Patriot was the main character Benjamin Martin. Benjamin Martin was a made up character for movie purposes. The actual events for his character a made up of multiple real life characters such as, Francis Marion.

In my opinion I believe that historical inaccrices harm are understandings of history. The reason is because it gives a false sense of what actually took place, whether it is by changing the name of characters, time and or location. I think that if you are going to make a historical film stick to the true facts as they happened. By changing the timeline of the events in a way you are trying to change history. The film the Patriot harmed history and I would not use that as a main teaching source or study guide. Some positives that can be taken from the movie would be the battle formations that where used to show what a historical battle might have looked like and what weapons could have been used during that period of time in history. With that being said I do believe that directors and film writers do butcher and re-write real life event s to please a certain crowd of viewers for entertainment and just a lack of respect for what really

As exciting as the sound of bugle calls us to arms, the Patriot, directed by Roland Emmerich, earns people’s hearts by its attractive and enthralling plot of the epic of a South Carolinian planter and widower Benjamin Martin(played by Mel Gibson) fighting the ruthless and brutal British dragoon captain called William Tavington(played by Jason Isaacs). A father of seven children, Martin is one of the British army during the French-Indian War, but with the tension evoked between America and Britain, and the unfortunate deaths of his two sons, Martin is determined to fight a bloody battle against the British in American Revolution. In general, the movie is attractive and heart-stirring, yet the actions of characters are so inaccurate, making the viewers to experience the illogical exaggeration combined with excitement.…

For these reasons is why it remains impossible to call it historically…

When faced with the task of making changes, referencing individuals in history becomes the norm. The individuals that banded together against injustices for the betterment of others, the individuals who were opposed and wanted nothing more than to see them extinguished and most importantly, the individuals who lost their lives in the fight and are immortalized as the ones who could do no wrong. History is littered with these perfect victims, the ones that evoke sympathy from their studiers. The ones that have somehow crossed from being remembered to being innocent. By honoring their memory, we, as witnesses of their legacy, are somehow absolved of any wrongdoing because its right to empathize with these people. Unfortunately, with documentaries…

In “The Patriot”, the tactics of war used by the British Army differ significantly from those used by the American rebels. The British based war and victory on honor. If a battle is not won properly, it might as well have not been won at all. Benjamin Martin, the leader of the rebels, identifies the pride of the British as their weakness. The American rebels based war on victory itself and concentrated their efforts in simply defeating the British. Their sole objective is to win; they did not have the luxury of being “civil” in their war tactics. This contrast is shown very well in several scenes from the movie.…
