Review Of Penny's Beard In Mind
Beard in Mind was a beautiful story, it was raw, emotional, and real. Every time I read Penny's books, I've always feel Penny's stories are easy to relate to, I imagined this book be the same for many as well. Penny's creations are always "more" than a romance story, Beard in Mind explored something we may overlook on our daily life, what you thought of someone does not always end up the same. Look can deceive you, sometime we need to take a little bit more effect to get to know someone, and even more effect to understand

There are many motifs throughout the Catcher in the Rye but one really interests me, and that is Holden’s red hunting cap. The red hunting cap is a motif that symbolizes Holden’s alter ego, the side of Holden that wants to confidently stand out. Its red colour is vibrant and eye-catching, its brim is pointier and different than a regular baseball cap that most kids wear, and by turning it backwards, it resembles a back catcher in baseball. All these characteristics make Holden stand out among the crowd when he wears the red hunting cap.…

Upon the novel starting, Holden’s red hunting hat is introduced almost immediately. Holden narrates within the first few pages about his trip to New York City with the fencing team. He explains to the reader of how he lost all of the teams fencing gear, and also elaborates on stumbling across the peculiar, red hat in a store upon departing from the subway after arriving back in Pennsylvania where he attends Pency Prep…

According to the quote from chapter 3, Ackley is explaining to Holden about how Holden’s hat is a hunting hat. The quote symbolizes his hatred for the world of adults. Holden in his own way “shoots people” by criticizing adults in his mind. This demonstrates his desire to stay young and never grow up thus allowing him to never lose his…

In the novel All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy illustrates the coming-of-age protagonist, John Grady Cole, who impulsively decides to travel to Mexico in search of an adventurous lifestyle. Although a teenager, John Grady Cole reveals rather matured behaviors towards his fellow companions, but he preserves the notion that he has control over everything. This very attitude backfires in severe consequences, in which John Grady Cole is essentially powerless. Subsequently, his ideals of cowboy life confronts the reality of adulthood because John Grady Cole loses his most prized attribute -- the child-like belief of…

To begin I want to thank you for your service to our country. I admire your benevolence. Phyllis Wheatly was very impressive. Having to face all the discrimination and obstacles people put in her way could not have been easy. Then to still have had such love and pride for this country showed big character on her part after the horrors she she witnessed during her time in slavery. In "To His Excellency General Washington" Phyllis wrote "enough thou know'st them in the fields of fight . Thee first in peace and honor - we demand " in her famous peom that she actually sent to him during this war. This quote acknowledges that America knew how hard it was for our service men on the front lines but we were not going down without a fight. George…

    Beard Vs Commager Analysis

My position on the Beard V Commager debate is on Beard’s side. He believed that the Constitution was an economic document that was set up by the founding fathers so that the government could achieve economic results that benefit their personal interests. On the other hand Commager believed the Constitution is essentially a political document, carefully created to stand for years to come and to serve as an example of democracy for people around the world. In the text Beard supports his thesis by giving evidence of the economic interests of elite who wrote the Constitution, and then showing how the structure of the government benefits these specific interests. Commager supports his thesis by naming the two problems that the Constitution worked…

In the stories written by Hurston, Faulkner, and O’Connor, many of the characters appear to be flawed; the main protagonists all have a distorted mental state. Southern novels often feature a type of grotesque theme. In “ Hairoglyphics in Faulkner's " A Rose for Emily"/ Reading the Primal Trace “, authors Mary Arensberg and Sara E. Schyfter discuss the mental state of Miss Emily in “ A Rose for Emily “ by William Faulkner. The authors state, “ Incest between a father and daughter, the re-enactment of the primal scene, is always represented as a secondary scene that strives to repeat the parental embrace”( Arensberg, Schyfter 127 ). Miss Emily quite possibly encountered an incest relationship with her father, which speaks volumes about her mental…

I’m not going to lie, I was not thrilled to be assigned a summer reading assignment but I thoroughly enjoyed Of Mice and Men. When I first picked up the book I told myself I was going to read the first twenty pages because that’s the type of reader I am and I ended up reading the first seventy-three. I couldn’t put the book down and I don’t know why. It’s not the type of book I would generally pick out, but Of Mice and Men stood out to me.…

In addition, throughout her life she continuously challenged the idea of femininity and masculinity. Within her paintings, she often portrays herself with physical traits including a uni-brow and a mustache. During this time period, such physical features would be considered a masculine trait and deemed distasteful for females to possess. Her belief in the importance of her own thoughts and actions over meeting society's expectations is heavily indicated within her portraits, which in turn correlates to feminists theory and ideologies of autonomy and body. Kahlo's facial hair was a statement and one that brought her ridicule. She also embraced her sexuality as evidenced in several of her paintings and photographs of her. For her embracing her…
