The movie ‘Midnight in Paris’ report

Paris is one of city I like the most. When I start to watch this movie, I can appreciate really beautiful Paris’ views for four minutes at the beginning of film. I think if anyone watches these views, he/she could not have appealed to that city. So, I guess why the background is Paris in the film. I conclude Paris has a lot of thing including historic romance and arts. It gives us food for thought.
The movie ‘Midnight in Paris’ showed us beautiful Paris views, fantasy romance, conflict between the past and reality. Also, Famous writer and painter such as Hemingway, Salvador Dali, Fitzgerald come on the film in the 1920’s. A protagonist, Gil goes back the past every midnight and met them. This may seem our appearance that is always eager to escape from reality. I focus on Gil’s inner conflict and romance, and divided Gil’s three type of romance. It is as in the following. Firstly, It is Gil’s romance with Inez from reality. I doubt if Girl and Inez really love each other. Eventually, Inez had an affair with Pole who is her friend’s husband. I thought they were at odds with one another from of the beginning. Whereas he always miss and sentimentalize over the past, she is negative and too realistic, and cynical for it. When they stay in Paris, he want to enjoy Paris’ romance, but she wants to enjoy Paris’ splendid. So, she thinks he is pathetic. I cannot understand them why they get engaged.
Secondly, Adriana and Gil. It is romance from fantasy. They are same. In other words, they think of the beautiful and picturesque past, and true to sentimental. But Adriana misses and stays the past. Gil consider the past as just precious period. He realizes that it is by no means missing object and should move toward the future. Thirdly, It is romance with Gabriel now starting. Gabriel works for Sanit-Ouen Flea Market sells antique. She understand sensitive and romance of the past enough. Unlike Inez who chafed Gil,

Upon an analytical, close reading of the associated scenes, several shared story elements are brought into prospective. Both revolve around a beautiful, young lady who believes it is her duty to act as a matchmaker for her two companions. In both, the protagonist attempts to capture an image of her friend in hope that it would somehow reveal or prove the affection of the other. But aside from that, one will find that the two widely differ. Hence, to be able thoroughly analyze the two pieces of work upon this scene and to further point out its similarities as well as differences, the analytical structure will be narrowed down into six different aspects: characters, setting, narration, plot, style, and theme.…

Somehow her relationship with Robert can also be interpretted as a certain excitement beyond the norms, just as how she thinks her marriage with Leonce is romantic because of her father’s objection. She is also not a perfect artist who can earn a living on her own with her sketches, as an artist “must possess many gifts – absolute gifts – which have not been aquired by one’s own effort”. While Edna’s actions of leaving her home seem to bear the qualities of “the courageous soul” that “dares and defies”, her “gifts” seem not sufficient enough to lift her up from where she has been. Nevertheless, all these flaws of Edna have proved how ordinary women in the 19th century cannot realize their own selves under the social boundaries as a wife and a mother. In fact, the normalness of Edna suggests that this story can happen to any woman in the setting – who may live a loving married life depending on her own submissiveness to the occassionally-courteous husband, who may meet the love of her life after getting married and have no future in the relationship, who may possess certain skills but not yet good enough to achieve as the price is so high that achievement is almost unattainable. If Edna is a tragic heroine who has waken but not realized, then this tragedy might have repeated many times in…

Boy meets girl. Boy likes girl. Over time, boy and girl fall in love. Boy and girl get married and live happily ever after. This is the idealistic progression of 20th Century male/female relationships, a progression which Gabriel Garcia Marquez utterly rejects in the development of relationships in his novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude. Garcia Marquez created the novel as a chronicle of humanity, truthfully presenting life in all of its variety. To this end, Garcia Marquez does not idealize the relationships of his novel 's characters; the destructive, failed relationships hold equal standing with the healthy, successful ones. Garcia Marquez 's inclusion of obsession as a persistent theme of human relationships serves not only to display a human trait, but also contributes to the over-riding cyclical pattern of the entire novel. Garcia Marquez interweaves the pattern of obsession between men and women into the novel 's progression, and through its repetition, obsession becomes significant to the novel as a whole.…

Opening with a scenic montage of the best that the city of lights has to offer, Paris is undoubtedly the creative hotspot of the world. And there’s something special about the midnight hour, something magical and mystical. The audience definitely sees this as Gill Pender (a struggling nostalgic novelist) wanders the streets at midnight and enters a 1920’s White Peugeot, whose clearly drunk occupants urge him to join them. Whisking him off to a party for Jean Cocteau, Pender encounters Scott Fitzgerald, Cole Porter and Hemingway, where he learns what it truly means to be an artist. This inevitably leads him to mingle with the likes Gertrude Stein, Dali and Picasso. Sharing insight with the greats, Gill questions his life and puts it in new perspective.…

From when the narrator is ten years old, we are shown glimpses of hope through his actions and personality. After being told by his panicked father that ‘the future is a hospital, packed with sick people, packed with hurt people’ the narrator simply wants to know how to ‘prepare’ for that. This naïve courage displayed by the innocent ten year old foreshadows the determination he will show as he grows older, whilst experiencing reoccurring trauma. After meeting Margo, the narrator is forever hopeful of securing her as a long-term partner in life. He is deeply in love with her, ‘It’s like wanting her to be here becomes so strong it almost makes me forget she’s not’ but finds it hard to put his feelings into action, anticipating the probable rejection from strong-willed and decisive Margo, ‘Silently, I ask her to marry me’.…

eleased in 2011, the movie Midnight in Paris, was created with the intention of highlighting the element of dissatisfaction people have with the present. The movie also speaks to the disillusionment felt by the many great American writers who left America and moved to Paris during the 1920s in order to escape the uncertainty and materialistic society America offered. Tess

Literature originates from life and reflects life in turn from a higher viewpoint. Literary work is set in a certain historical background and absorbs nutriment from social reality. As the dramatized reality, literature artistically represents many aspects of history and society, which serve as the sources for literature creation. Reversely history and society are woven into the fabric of a good literary work. In the perspective of dialectical materialism, history plays a great part in shaping Tess’s fate. To some extent, her tragedy is destined by the special history in which she exists; in turn, she, as the product of her history, reflects the qualities her history endows her generation. When Hardy wrote Tess, England was experiencing severe strains to adjust to immense alterations in its structure at the time of complete social transition from the old to new. The transition and problems juxtaposing it plunged the whole country into the nightmare of predicament “the ache of modernism” that is called the feeling of the age by Angel in the novel. Bewilderment and perplexity covered this old traditional European country. The old world still lingered with the remaining glories, while the new one was too tender to smash the old and thrive as the leading trend. People at this time were disoriented, groping in the darkness for the right way to a peaceful life. New phenomena and ideas emerged every day; however, no “ism” or doctrine could satisfy people as Christianity had and bring them back to the peace and tranquility of the longcherished patriarchy. Struggling on such a “blighted star” (TD ), life was doomed to tragedy.…
