Personal Responsibility

Even though some people never develop strong personal responsibility skills, it is a trait, which is taught by parents and by peers growing up. These skills can determine the outcome of the future and the degree of success. In order to be a successful student, personal responsibility is essential. It is accepting accountability for one's actions and is vital when pursuing an education. Personal responsibility and college success are dependent upon one another.

Personal responsibility skills are lacking these days with the high rise of crime, especially with teenagers. Often enough, I hear my children’s friends blaming problems or trouble on other friends or on their parents. This is a direct connection of not taking person responsibility. An article clearly stated this as “Parental responsibility is being embraced as an important method for preventing future juvenile delinquency’ (White, Augosustino & Taplin, 2007). I’ve always made a conscious effort to teach my children the difference between right and wrong. This includes making good choices and when they haven’t, they need to face the consequences. Personal responsibility is showing respect to oneself and peers. This is an ongoing life lesson that will need to be continually developed when encountering different types of who will challenge it.

Using these skills in college and life correctly will lead to a successful outcome. Starting college and identifying the correct career path is the first start. Achieving the goals set will come if it’s visualized first. According to Cheema and Bagchi (2011) “This research demonstrates that as people approach a goal, external representations, which increase the ease of visualizing the goal, enhance goal pursuit” (p. 109). Writing down short and long term goals will help to stay focused on these dreams. Even breaking these down into shorter goals, such as monthly, daily, and hourly will help strengthen the task. This is one step closer

America would not be where it is without the laws that have been placed and the citizens who follow the laws. In order for this to happen the knowledge and acceptance of the laws are needed to establish order. African Americans had been secluded in the past through harsh laws of segregation. Although many believe disobeying the law is morally wrong and if disobeyed a punishment should follow, Martin Luther King’s profound statement, “One has the moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws” (King 420) leads to greater justice for all which is also supported by King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” Jefferson’s “ The Declaration of Independence,” and Lincoln’s “Second Inaugural Address.”…

(Introduction) According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary personal means relating to the person or body and responsibility means the quality or state of being responsible such as a moral, legal, or mental accountability. Fritz Perls, the father of gestalt therapy, said that, “responsibility meant that we all have the ability to personally respond – “response-ability”. Perls also referred responsibility to the ability to move, feel, live, and change you. So, to my understanding, personal responsibility is one’s ability to care for what has been entrusted to them. It is when an individual accepts the outcome of whatever actions or decisions he/or she makes, instead of blaming other people for what did not turn out right. Personal Responsibility is important to me because it is something that I am supposed to have as a child of the Most High God. In this essay, it is my goal to define what personal responsibility is and what it means to me, explain the relationship between personal responsibility and college success, and give an example of how I plan to practice personal responsibility in my education.…

There is no philosophically well-settled way of dividing or analyzing the various components of responsibility, and some components are often ignored by philosophers. To take a more comprehensive approach, this article divides the responsibility of individuals into four areas of enquiry. Recent analytic moral philosophy has tended to ask two deceptively simple questions about responsibility like; “What is it to be responsible?” and “What is a person responsible for?”…
