Response To Conflict

The best way to respond to conflict is by lying and/or hiding. I personally think that these are both good options. But I do understand that they can have consequences. Sometimes the consequences can be very little, but can also be very big and bad. Lying however, is sometimes thought to be a good response at a certain time. Lying can be used as a way to respond to conflict. I am sure that at least once in your life you have lied about something to protect yourself or someone else. In the story “The Diary of Anne Frank” Anne is a Jewish girl hiding with her family from the Nazis. While in the annex, they have friends who keep their secret by lying about their location so they don’t get caught. (Frank 122-124) Another example would be the book “The Boy In The Striped Pajamas”. The young boy Bruno thinks the concentration camps near his new house are farms, his mother and father refuse to tell him what it actually is. Bruno lies to
Both of the stories used as examples didn't have the best outcomes. ”The Boy In The Striped Pajamas” had a terrible ending. Because Bruno’s mother and Father kept the outside world from him and lied about the “farm”, he didn't know any better when trying to help Schmuel find his father. Bruno snuck under the fence and entered the camp not knowing that the house he would enter was headed to the gas chamber. He and Schmuel got caught in the crowd. If his family had not lied and hid reality from him, he may not have entered the camp. As for “The Diary of Anne Frank”, they were found and all sent to concentration camps. They were not caught because of lying and hiding, they used those to keep from being caught. Although ”The Boy In The Striped Pajamas” and “The Diary of Anne Frank” had a similar outcome, they both used lying and hiding as a way to respond to a conflict and in both cases, World War ll was the conflict they were responding
