Respecting the Price
Of Freedom
America is one of the only nations in the world that has the right to Freedom, but our freedom did not come without a price. For centuries brave men and women have sacrificed their lives so that we could enjoy the very rights to freedom we have the luxury to today, yet their sacrifice goes unheard of in our schools, homes and churches. Every day I go to school we say the Pledge of Allegiance and then we have a moment of silence to honor the brave troops that sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Despite the call for silence the classroom is rarely silent even the teachers who are supposed to set an example cannot simply be quiet for less than a minute, is this what our great country is coming to the men and women who are educating the future leaders of our nation cannot; will not respect the men and women who bravely sacrificed their lives so that we could have freedom. The example our educators are setting on our children is setting them up to forget the reason they get to have an education in the first place. Allen Boyd once said “America's fighting men and women sacrifice much to ensure that our great nation stays free. We owe a debt of gratitude to the soldiers that have paid the ultimate price for this cause, as well as for those who are blessed enough to return from the battlefield unscathed”. So I ask you that whenever it is time for a moment of silence instead of continuing to chit chat with your friends, think about the men and women who died so that you could have a brighter future and respect those brave soldiers.
