The Great Sphinx
The Great Sphinx is carved out of the Gizeh stone quarry. It is colossal in size and has the body of a lion and head of a pharaoh, most likely Khafre. The Great Sphinx is an amazing piece of art and is an icon of egypt because of its size and association with the sun god.
The Great Sphinx is an enormous statue, carved out of sandstone. It is 65 feet high and 240 feet long. It is located in Gizeh, Egypt and was made in the fourth dynasty, ca.2520-2494 BCE. It is associated with the sun god and is probably the portrayal of the pharaoh Khafre, but some scholars think it portrays the pharaoh Khufu. The form combines the strength of a lion with human intelligence.
