Essay #2- “Rip Van Winkle” It is no surprise that Washington Irving has received international acclaim. Irving’s’ writing, “Rip Van Winkle” is very sophisticated with a broad vocabulary. There are very extensive or vivid details throughout the story. Irving’s story is written so well it could not become outdated. Though the story of “Rip Van Winkle” is fictional, Irving does a good job illustrating American history. For example, the change in that small town after the revolution went from tranquil to busy (Irving, p.619). Though it is not detailed in the events, it still seems appropriate to the time.
