Reentry programs within our community have a successful rate helping felons and ex drug users reintegrate back into our community. I chose to do my assignment on the Santa Clara county reentry services, with their mission “To reduce recidivism by using evidence-based practices in implementing a seamless system of services, supports, and supervision”. Those with a criminal history face many challenges in receiving public benefits, gaining successful employment, regaining custody of children and obtaining housing. It is difficult for an ex-convict to retrieve things themselves. Numerous of convicts are suffering with mental or physical illnesses and are limited of getting …show more content…
In comparison, the treatment had the least minimal effect in lowering the recidivism of low risk inmates. This program innovates in Effects of Cognitive Behavioral Treatment for Offenders, they examined 58 studies which showed decreased in reconvictions. Offenders involved in Cognitive Behavioral Treatment had a one and one half greater likeliness of not recidivating again after discharge from the correctional supervision. However, those who were not involved in treatment were likely to get incarcerated. When treated inmates are transitioned to aftercare there are support services that follow discharge, the level of reoffending drops by more than one third. These remedies would not be possible without the collaboration of federal and state governmental systems and treatment providers. This program works in 6 different Core Programs which are Substance Abuse Treatment with Cognitive Behavioral Elements, Cognitive Behavioral Skills Training, Conflict Resolution/Anger Management, Academic and Postgraduate Education/Job Readiness Training, Re-Entry Preparation and Aftercare.     Reentry can be defined as the process in which a criminal has been incarcerated for some time and it being granted a release back into society. With this being taken place they must have served most or their entire sentence that has been given to them while on parole or probation.
