Nikola Tesla was born in the Austrian territory. Tesla obtained an excellent education in engineering and physics in the 1870s. He gained practical experience in the 1880s working in telephony. He worked on telephony in Continental Edison in the new electric power industry. Tesla came to the United States in 1884, where he would become naturalized citizen.
