He created this chemical compound and tried to find cannabinoid receptors in the brain. The parts that THC in marijuana bond with to produce feelings of euphoria and research shows he was successful in these findings. (http://syntheticmarijuana.wordpress.com/). These chemicals do not show up in the system but result in having a long term effect on the body. According to Huffman, “it doesn’t hit the brain in the same way as marijuana, and that’s why it’s dangerous.” (http://hightimes.com/news/mmiller/7144). Legal spice is known all around the US and in some places it is legal. In other cities it is not, because of the effects it causes on the body. Drug addiction is drug addiction, no matter what route is taken, whether it be from opioid analgesics, marijuana or other drugs. Drug addiction is something that this world will never be without. What most people fail to see is that drugs of high addiction rates should and can be monitored. When it comes to opioid analgesics versus medical marijuana, the debate is high and strong. Most people, which include medical professionals and actual drug addicts, believe that opioid analgesics are the best form of treatment for pain but I believe otherwise. I believe that medical marijuana can be very beneficial because of its chemical makeup and less likelihood to be abused. Concerns on the drug are understandable; many people fear that marijuana can lead to the use and abuse of harder drugs such as heroin and cocaine. “Marijuana is far less addictive and far less subject to abuse than many drugs now used as muscle relaxants, hypnotics and analgesics”(Lester Grinspoon, MD and James B. Bakalar, JD). Medical marijuana should not be considered as a drug but more like a healing herb. Marijuana isn’t even a drug, it’s a plant. Therapeutic use of marijuana has a history spanning over 4,500 years. Around 2700 B.C., in Egypt, marijuana (cannabis sativa) was used as a treatment for sore eyes; the Greeks used cannabis as a remedy to treat inflammation earache and edema (Teresa Odle and Clare Hanrahan). Even today, clinical studies have shown that marijuana is effective against relieving nausea and vomiting following chemotherapy treatments for cancer. The herb has also been…

Cannabis is the main ingredient in marijuana. The National institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) reported that its effect on the body is just like any other natural made chemical in the body. The benefits range from treating simple headache to slowing down cancer cells. Drugs sold over the counter are more dangerous than marijuana yet those drugs are approved and are sold. Donald Abrams, chief of hematology-oncology at San Francisco general hospital, has done more research on marijuana than anyone in the United States (Weil, 127). He concluded in his research that inhaling cannabis can help reduce pain associated with nerve damage and can also increase effect of opiate pain relievers as well help patients sleep. This is greatly important because of how tough nerve damage can be on a person. They are usually recommended to use over the counter pain relief pills but if marijuana is stronger in relieving pain as well as helping them sleep more calmly why would anyone decline. Another usage for marijuana is that the cannabinoids have an ability to relieve chronic pain which included nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy (Park). Cancer is something that troubles every human because currently the current treatments to battle it are very costly on the human body physically and mentally. Chemotherapy is so frightening that some people are even tempted not to try to that method. If they were told about marijuana,…

Some of the advantages often include relief of a number illnesses and pain and can be a safe and effective treatment for symptoms of AIDS, MS, epilepsy, cancers, and plenty of other health issues. According to Joycelyn Elders, MD, former US Surgeon General "The evidence is overwhelming that marijuana can relieve certain types of pain, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms caused by such illnesses as multiple sclerosis, cancer and AIDS -- or by the harsh drugs sometimes used to treat them. And it can do so with remarkable safety. Indeed, marijuana is less toxic than many of the drugs that physicians prescribe every day" (ProCon.org). After reading her statement on marijuana, I cannot help but think if it can help in those ways then why not let people who are suffering every day from pain and illness try medical marijuana and see if it helps them with their symptoms. Also, I believe that if alcohol and tobacco are legal drugs then what the difference in legalizing medical marijuana is, at least this drug has some health benefits unlike alcohol and tobacco, which can cause cancer and other health risks.…

Conditions that marijuana is typically prescribed to treat are cancer, AIDS, and multiple sclerosis. Medical cannabis is a highly controversial subject because cannabis is still considered illegal under federal law. In fact, Federal law classifies marijuana as a Schedule I drug, which means that it has no safe medical use and a high potential for abuse. Both of these statements are completely false. Marijuana has been proven to be beneficial as a form of medical treatment. Also, marijuana is not physically addictive and therefore, has low potential for abuse. Some people can develop minor dependence issues from a psychological standpoint. When comparing marijuana's drug classification to the most popular drugs in the United States it is illogical. Alcohol and Tobacco are both far more addictive and harmful than cannabis is. Each year new research is released documenting the harmful effects that tobacco and alcohol have on the body. Including direct links to cancer and death. Unlike tobacco marijuana has never been linked to cancer. In addition, there has never been a single documented death from cannabis usage. Alcohol causes people to use poor decision making and it causes people to become violent and aggressive. When comparing marijuana to modern day pharmaceuticals one again is forced to conclude that marijuana's classification is unjustified.…

There are many cases that medical marijuana has helped a patient get better. In the article “High Science” Hampton Sides informs readers about the history of marijuana and how it is helping today. He explains several scenarios’s where medical marijuana helped a person with other things other than sickness. He talks about marijuana curing sickness and also anxiety. This explains my argument because whenever people hear the word marijuana, they think of drugs and addict, and they do not realize the positive side of marijuana in medical purposes. The usage of marijuana for medical purposes has been used to treat a number of sicknesses associated with pain. Pain that can make people suffer or make them terminally ill. Aside from medical benefits, marijuana is also camouflaged by myths. Marijuana is not highly addictive or anything like what everybody believes. Simply marijuana should be legalized for the medical use to help people get over these terminally ill illnesses. Medical marijuana could make a huge impact on people going through cancer therapy, it has been…
