She saw visions from God. When Joan was twelve years old she saw Michael the Archangel in a vision, he told her that she was to lead the French in a battle against the English. When Joan turned sixteen she decided it was time to listen to her visions and take action.
She made her journey to King Charles VII. She first went to the local town and asked the commander of the garrison to take her to see the king. He just laughed
at her. However she gained support of local leaders, so the commander agreed to take her to the king, who at first was suspicious but then let Joan accompany a convoy of soldiers to the siege of Orleans.
She liberated Orleans form the siege. Once they were there, she launched an attack against the English. Joan was wounded by an arrow during the battle, but she didn’t give up, she stayed with the troops inspiring them to fight even harder. They repelled the English troops and caused them to retract from Orleans. Nowadays she is a saint even though was killed by the Church. After King Charles is crowned she was captured and held as prisoner by the English. They gave her a trial and said that being dressed as a man was enough to burn her alive. She was only nineteen years old when she died. She was canonized in 16 May 1920, Rome.
