Research Paper On Hysteria
In the year 2076, the United States fell into nuclear war with Russia, which lead to the drastic elimination of most life on Earth. However, the United States government had funded a program that would dig underground and build vaults that would be used to contain and protect those who could pay to get a space inside. On the day of the bombing, a report had gone public of an impending attack by the Russians that would lead to the end of humanity. Hysteria ensued and people rushed to local vaults and were not permitted access because they had not paid the fine beforehand. One man, however, stood out from the rest. He looked as if he had just gotten out of bed, clad in boxers and a white tank-top, rushing along to the vault that his family was …show more content…
My name is Gabriel Wilton and I am the curator of this great vault. Under this government funded facility, we shall make the rest of your lives as great as possible with state of the art entertainment services and food rations that will last for...” his face became a little scrunched as if he is thinking and then he finally blurts out,”...for a while! Of course, haha. Food for everybody for a very, very long time.” Gabriel’s face was lit fiery red and he looked at the floor as if he saw something interesting and needed to focus all of his attention on it. The platform eventually fell onto the main floor of the vault with a sharp hydraulic hiss that startled the passengers on the platform and caused Rayner’s son to have a tantrum. The sound of a baby crying caught the curator’s attention and he slowly approached Rayner and Hila, who were tending to their weeping baby. “So, you have a baby. What’s the little guy’s name?” asked Gabriel in a slightly hushed tone since Hila had just gotten the child to settle …show more content…
We kill Gabriel as revenge for Wright. Then, we steal his keys to his main office and to the main exit platform. We’ll run from there.” “That’s a little rash, don’t you think?” questioned Rayner “Of course not! He killed our son. It is going to be us against him. He’s always sucking up to us just to make us forget the fact that he killed our son. We are going to do this.” This ended the discussion between the two as they fell asleep.
The next afternoon, they waited for Gabriel at an intersection of two hallways after they finished working. After waiting for many hours and scattering at least three times due to wandering guards, they gave up on waiting and decided to rush at his office head on. Once at the entrance of Gabriel’s office, they slowly opened the door and were surprised by the door being unlocked. Rayner flicked a light switch next to the door and was appalled by what he saw. Gabriel was in his bed, clearly taking a heavy snooze, while a bundle of blankets next to him occasionally squirmed and cooed. It was Wright. As Rayner reached for the baby, Gabriel snapped awake and instantly reached for something on his nightstand. Hila leaped at Gabriel’s arm, latching onto it and not letting

On December 28, 2014; Rachel Melacon and Allen Coats gave birth to Olivia Coats. Unfortunately the doctor, who delivered her baby girl, by using forceps against the young couple’s wishes, caused unfixable injuries to the newborn. The couple puts blame for the death of their five-day old baby girl, Olivia Coats. However even though she requested to have a C- section, due to the size of the baby, Dr. George T. Backardjiev shut the idea down. Dr. Backardjiev told Rachel that it would leave a scar afterwards. He ended up using the forceps to deliver her baby girl. Dr. Backardjiev struggled with the forceps, “he even put his foot on the bed” to try and pull the baby out. “Dr. Backardjiev was turning and twisting, and she would never come out, he put the forceps one way and the other; when he touched the top and the side of the skull, we heard a pop, like clay cracking in pottery and heard her skull crush.” The medical staff told the couple their baby was alive; then Olivia was quickly transferred to “Children’s Memorial Harmann Hospital” in Houston Texas, it was at that hospital that they were informed that their daughter had suffered several fractures to her skull and spine; then on January 2nd Olivia Coats died. Angie coats told ABC News “we’re not mad at the hospital, this not their fault. It is one man’s fault, we only want justice for Olivia; we want the person responsible, which is the doctor. We don’t want the hospital being shunned.” The parents plan to sue Dr. Backardjiev for the death of their baby girl. The hospital administration and independent medical staff leadership are all committed in taking all necessary actions in understanding why this happened. The Houston Chronicle reports that the parents of Olivia Coats started a campaign to ban the use of forceps during delivery called “The Olivia Law.” The couple also started a fundraiser on Go Fund Me to raise awareness about the use of forceps explaining how damaging they can be, so far the…

I chose this quote because it explains how scared Gabriel is of his mom because he knows he will be punished for his brother crying. In attempt to silence Vernon’s crying, he puts a piece of cloth in his mouth and hid him in an old refrigerator that was no longer in use. His mother came down from their bedroom and asked Gabriel what the noise was. Gabriel lied to his mother and said that Vernon was outside in the yard, when in all reality, he was dead in the refrigerator. Vernon’s body was later found by his father when he came home from church.…

She did not look at them; she simply swung the baby toward the wall planks, missed and tried to connect a second time, when out of nowhere the ticking time the men spent staring at what there was to stare at–the old nigger boy, still mewing, ran through the door behind them and snatched the baby from the arch of its mother's swing.”]. This is not a personal essay of what I believe, but I will speak my mind. This quote made me cry. I do not know whether I should hate Sethe or sympathize with her. In a weird way all humans want to sympathize even with the wrong doers. We want to believe that all propel have a heart and have reasons to doing the wrong things they do which is what happens in this case. But now we have to think did she not just sacrifice her child to get her family out of Sweet Home? Out of slavery? But was it worth it? Was her sacrifice worth the pain she had caused?…

According to Western University, “Hysteria is characterized by nervous, eccentric, and erratic behavior.” Which, if a woman expressed these signs, would be treated in an asylum, also known as, a psychiatric hospital. As shown, by evidence within the text and through research found within articles and books, the woman in “The Yellow Wallpaper” did not present any sort of symptoms relating to Hysteria, but she did have very similar symptoms aligned with severe post-partum depression. Now, even though the woman from “The Yellow Wallpaper” does not have Hysteria, she is receiving treatment in a psychiatric hospital within the story. Overall, in the short…

Simply gaining a place in the study of psychology was no small feat. It took countless women, over the course of many decades, just to earn the right to discuss theories of their own psyche. Now that women had a voice in psychology, it was the goal of many female psychologists to demolish the weak and incapable social image of women that male psychologists had promoted for so many decades. Even before Sigmund Freud’s implication of his degrading theories towards women, men had the power to manipulate, control, and brand women because they were the only holders of authority. The concept that women were controlled by their reproductive systems was almost regarded as fact and supported the beliefs that women were feeble and “highly nervous by…

“Go, Go!” yelled the guard, pointing at this small squared outlet in the ground. Hysteria enlightened in me, and my mind overdosed itself with adrenaline. Tackling the herds, I held my sisters hand and whipped through the crowds not caring who was in front of me. We walked inside, and realized we weren’t alone. The underground world was flooded with people as far as I could see which carried rows and rows of people with distressed looks. The guard ran in and as soon as he did, all we heard was blistering screams from those who were not part of the…

There was a loud clunk as some bright white lights flashed on and broke through the darkness under the canvas sack. I could make out a few shadows, but other than that the material was too thick to see through properly. Did I mention my mild claustrophobia? Either way, I was scared. More than scared. If it was one thing I’d leant in my profession, it was exposure to fear didn’t always create tolerance. Dr Crane had kindly proven that. I could hear Alexandra breathing harshly to my right, but the other figures in the room were mostly silent. I tried to regulate my breathing, but the canvas bag smelt of sweat and petrol making me gag. I couldn't help but feel that I'd brought this upon myself. Had I dragged Alex into this mess? Or had she dragged me into hers? As the daughter of a mob boss, it was safe to assume that she was in more trouble than I was, but she hadn't met the Joker. Maybe I was flattering myself; why would the Joker still care about me? But I knew better than to assume things about psychopaths. I'd learnt that the hard way.…
