The gorilla is the bulkiest member of the primate family; an adult gorilla may grow up to 1.8m high (although they seldom stand fully upright). There are three species of gorillas recognized worldwide. The most common race, the western lowland gorilla is not present in Uganda but an estimated 40000 live in the rainforests of west and central Africa. The endangered eastern lowland gorilla is restricted to patches of forests in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The most threatened specie is the mountain gorilla. Their total number is estimated to be only 700. Half of these mountain gorillas lie in Uganda. The mountain gorillas have become Uganda’s most major attraction and a truly Ugandan safari cannot be complete without tracking the mountain gorilla from Bwindi or Mgahinga National park. Looking into the dark brown eyes of these mammals is quite a memorable experience that Uganda other than any other destination in the world can offer.…

The Eastern Gorilla faces many challenges due to the destruction of its habitat and poaching. The Eastern Gorilla is the largest living primate and has now joined three other great ape species as critically endangered on The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN)’s red list of endangered species. This is extremely worrying to many government and environmental leaders because there are only about five thousand Eastern Gorillas left in the wild. Furthermore, of all of the great ape species- the Eastern Gorilla, Western Gorilla, Bornean Orangutan, Sumatran Orangutan, Chimpanzee, and Bonobo- only the Chimpanzee and Bonobo are not considered critically endangered; however, they are listed as endangered.…

As young children we all dream to be that special animal the soars through the sky, swims deep in the sea, or "roars" like the king of the jungle. If I could be any animal, I would be a wild mustang. The wild mustang is a endangered species who runs freely across the open plains of North America. The wild horse symbolizes freedom and power. They have no one to answer to and no rules to fallow. Wild mustangs were first introduced to America by Spanish Conquistadors in the sixteenth century. The word mustang is derived from the Spanish saying "mustengo" which means "ownerless beast" or "stray horse." Mustangs are are fourteen to fifteen hands tall, which means that they are a medium-sized horse and they weigh about 800 pounds. Mustangs come in…

Have you ever looked at a horse and wonder how we got to the modern horse we have today? Imagine a world where there were horses of all colors, sizes, shapes were roaming the earth, but was no bigger than a size of a dog. Today’s horses only represent a fraction of the horse family tree, known as Equine. All the other branches of horses called Equidae are now extinct. The Equid family appeared 55 million years ago, in North America, which branched off into different genera such as grazers, left browsers, and mixed feeders. Today the Equid family is only represented by Equus genus, that is composed of seven to nine species, including zebras, asses, donkeys, and horses. These species are also in the order Perissodactyla, or odd-toed animal. Tracking the line of descent from Hyracotherium to Equus reveals several evident patterns: degradation of toe number, increase increment of molar teeth, extending of the face, and growth in body size; but these patterns are not found in all the horse lines.…

“The White Giraffe”, by Lauren St. John, was written and published in 2006. The novel starts off on New Year's Eve in Hampshire, England, the story takes place on a wildlife reserve, in Sawubona, Zimbabwe, in South Africa.. For one, Sawubona is where Martine’s grandfather died while trying to escape the poachers who were trying to kill the giraffes at the reserve. Not only that, it is also the place where the legend of the white giraffe had originated and where the white giraffe supposedly lives. If the story had taken place in another setting, the characters would not have been able to develop as they did, nor reacted as they did, because the environment they were in would've been different.…

The short story The Giraffe, written by Mauro Sensi, provides me with insight of the complexity of everyday life by helping me understand the purpose of what I see, experience, or do from day to day. It helps me understand the purpose of why people purchase the things they do and why people say the things they do. In everyday life, I come across many people who own many different things. The reasoning behind most of their purchases is usually very simple, they either just needed or wanted the thing they purchased.…
