Flowers For Algernon is a fictional book. I would place Flowers For Algernon under two genre categories.The first genre category I would place it in is science fiction. I would categorize it as science fiction because the plot centers around an operation on the brain that increases your intelligence. The second genre category I would place Flowers For Algernon in is realistic fiction. I think the book should be labeled as realistic fiction because all the events and conflicts that occur in the book could really happen in real life and the problems the main character deals with are real life problems. For example just like Charlie many people are mentally retarded.

    Short story Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes gives the opportunity for many different themes. Even if I have only chosen one, ‘ Too much of anything is not good for anybody’ that does not mean that it is the only one that I can see throughout the story.
