The rich cultural and the many amazing traits that Costa Rica had in store for us, was only a symbol of the cultural and traits that fall within our team. It seems hard to believe that a country like Costa Rica and a small college soccer team can have so much in common, but along the trip I realized that in a lot of ways, we are the same. Reading the “Ticos” book could only teach each of us so much about Costa Rica and the Ticos that live there because it only mentioned “on the surface” facts that were pretty straight forward; It wasn’t until the trip, when we were able to delve into the culture itself and really understand what the book was saying. Costa Rica didn’t just…

Costa Rican food is much different than the foods indignant to America. My dinners and lunches consist of mostly meat. Steaks, ham, pork, and fish make up most of my diet, but that is different in Costa Rica. Costa Rican dinners and lunches consist of many different types of vegetables, rice, fruits, and a small portion of meat with little spices. I think this is very interesting because this means that Costa Ricans have a very widespread diet containing balanced portions of meats, vegetables, and fruits. This makes me want to broaden my horizons when it comes to food so I am able to have a healthy amount of each food type.…

Volcanic hazards can be detrimental to the lives of the people who live near the active zone of the volcano in question due to their immense power coming from the centre of the earth however with effective management of the risks the number of deaths, disrupted lives and the economic damage can be reduced greatly. An example I will use of a recent volcano that erupted was Mt St Helens which is an active supervolcano located in Washington, USA - 96 miles south of the city of Seattle and 50 miles northeast of Portland. Clearly there is an active community of people living in close proximity of the volcano, at risk from ashfall and spewing lava.…

Aside from the fact that they are beautiful and lovable animals, they are first and foremost important to the health and natural structure of the rainforest. Because of their diet consisting of those wonderful ripe fruits, these monkeys are seed dispersers. This means that they aid in the distribution of seeds of the fruit trees that they feed from. A seed can pass through the digestive system of a monkey completely unharmed. It takes about three hours for the seed to go all the way through the digestive tract. This ample time allows the monkey to carry the seed far away from the original tree. This in the end means that the seed the monkey eventually disperses back into nature is able to grow into another fruit tree that the Panamanian Spider Monkey and the other fruit-eating animals are able to subsist on. Without this monkey’s special ability of transporting whole and unharmed seeds to other areas of the rainforest, those fruit trees would not continue to thrive in the areas where those seeds may not have reached before. This would mean less new trees growing which would be stunting the conservation and flourishing of the rainforest…
