However, Breen and Innes show that over the course of time there were a larger number of non-Creole blacks that started to arrive in the colony. These blacks were arriving as slaves and had distinct customs, languages, markings, etc. This led to a much more racial environment. Some of the older families like Anthony Johnson’s family had members that began to view Africa as a better place rather than deal with all of the European racism they were facing. European’s had also begun by this time to restrict the rights of these free blacks. Many blacks eventually left to colonies with less restriction such as Maryland. Some…

Even though Hermosa Beach California and Redondo Beach California are next to each other they are really worlds apart. To a person not raised in the South Bay they look similar but, to someone that is raised in the South Bay it would be like comparing apples to orange both are beaches but, both have a different flavoring. In Spanish Hermosa means beautiful and Hermosa Beach is just that.…
Martha’s Vineyard is a small island five miles off the southeastern shore of Massachusetts settled in the mid to late 17th century. For nearly 300 years, from the early eighteenth century to the mid twentieth century, it was home to a remarkably high percentage of deaf Americans who developed their own sign language, Martha’s Vineyard Sign Language. This isolated island allowed sign language to flourish beyond the deaf community, dissolving barriers between deaf and hearing prevalent in the rest of the world.…
Jersey Shore, on MTV, is a wonderful model of reality television gone wrong. It is definitely one of the worst shows on TV, but has become one of the most popular. The cast of Jersey Shore reinforces negative stereotypes of Italian-Americans, and shows relationships and sex in an extremely negative light. Racial slurs are a part of everyday vocabulary, relationships are all about fighting and infidelity, and sexual activity is no big deal. The cast’s interactions with others show men and women negatively also. These images can have a negative effect on many of the shows young viewers. Although many people recognize the show’s lack of substance, they can’t seem to stop watching it, which only gives the impression that all of these things are acceptable. This show is definitely more than just a bad show, it negatively portrays groups of people, and downplays important issues.…

Let me describe Nicaragua. Tall, silver buildings , people scurrying on the sidewalk, giant green palm trees, tropical breezes, and even a cool gust on a hot hot summer day. Nicaragua is the place to be. But that’s only what the capital is like. The rest is poor cities. Nicaragua’s main oceans are the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, and they have a lake named after them. Since its such a big country, it has three climates. The Pacific Region, Central Highlands, and the Caribbean Region, which I’ll explain later. “Violence has been Nicaragua’s most important export to the world.” -Ronald Reagan, or, the Spanish version, which Nicaraguans would be able to read,”La violencia ha sido la exportación más importante de Nicaragua al mundo” -Ronald Reagan (no date shown). Now, you want to learn more? Continue reading. You will read about geography, climate, government, economy, culture, and find out some interesting facts.…
Throughout Ancient civilisations the prevalence of seafaring allows for the multi-faceted nature of trade and the interconnections of these societies to be uncovered as well as illustrate the significance of trade through earlier periods of history. Trade is commonly defined as the “exchange of material goods, typically of equal value.” This essay will be focusing primarily on the Aegean Bronze Age: (3000-1000 BCE) and most notably the seafaring people of Crete; the Minoans. Seafaring allows trade across seas and through this it is evident that trade is not just for materialist gain, however it can affect cultures, economy, break down geographical barriers of land trade and allows alliances…
