After receiving back my draft of my final paper, I made several changes to it; taking into consideration not only my instructors comments and suggestions, but also suggestions from the Center for Writing Excellence. The audience for writing project one final is for my instructor Heather Burford , for my ivy tech English 111 class . My peer response that I received was very helpful. I was told that I had some grammar mistakes. Also I had a suggestion to fix where I had one of my paragraphs. Also I was told that my writing was a little confusing English wise. But that what I hope to improve on in this class. I also had some good feedback saying that I had a good summery and understanding of the article. I tried fixing as much of my grammar mistakes as I could see and hear but like always I know this paper could be cleaned up better somehow. I just do not see myself what I could fix. I actually enjoy the topic because I actually knew who J.R. Simplot was…

When working in a career field that exposes their employees to stressful situations, it is inevitable that during their time in the field that they will see or go through something traumatic while on the job. This applies to any EMS provider; every day they encounter people in times of need. However, sometimes we can not help these people and this is when critical incident debriefing comes into play. Critical incident debriefing is a supportive crisis intervention group, that is composed of a small group of your peers. CIDS began to have growing support in the 1970’s when state and federal legislation was passed to provide resources and services to those who were traumatized either emotionally or mentally by a critical incident. I have learned that revising your writing makes it way better than before. You find your mistakes and realize you can replace words such as “bring to” to a different high vocabulary word such as “cease”. I know now that there is no way to make your paper perfect. There will always be a word, words, or sentence you could change. In addition, I’ve gained a better understanding on passive and active sentences. Once I was done writing my paper, and began to reread it I found some passive sentences. All I did was revise the sentence which helped my writing flow better. Initially, I read the first paper I wrote for the Quarter 1 Writing Assessment and I noticed that I didn’t follow the directions completely. As I read on, there were many simple sentences and not many transitional words.…

My work from the beginning of STEP to now has drastically changed especially in my writing. I never enjoyed writing essays because I did not do well with writing under pressure. After completing my essay, I felt confident about what I produced. However ,when my essay was handed back, it was noted that I lacked vocabulary, figurative language and my sentence structure was poor. After being in class, I have improved on my essay writing skills. I used more vocabulary terms than I usually would in my essays, had better sentence structure, and completed the entire essay with time to spare to check it over. In addition I learned that i have been using seven deadly writing sins in my writing. Continuously writing and having my peers edit my work helped me eliminated those sins from my writing. When school starts again, I will be prepared to write a timed essay with the new skills I have attained.…

Over the course of the past three months, I have had the distinct pleasure of testing my writing capabilities through the Introduction to College Writing course. I have always had a passion for writing in all forms, but in previous years, the course work in grade-level English classes have been unchallenging of my writing ability. I have been heavily involved in Bonneville High School’s newspaper through journalism since my freshman year. This allowed me to strengthen my writing capability as I was drafting throughout the entire school year. I have never truly had to apply myself until I enrolled in English 101. Since the beginning of the class, I have faced various hardships while writing essays in unfamiliar styles, such as drafting a response to a scholarly article and synthesizing opposing perspectives. I have learned that I am more than capable in writing in different styles and that all of my work will be quality content regardless of the topic. I overcame the obstacles that have challenged me, and my essays exhibit that I am fully prepared to continue my work in English 102.…

When a writer is unsure what he/she can write about, that's when brainstorming come in. Brainstorming is a process where a writer just writes down ideas as they pop into his/her head (like I do). This helps a writer freely think about anything and does not block their ideas. When a writer is done brainstorming then he/she can review their ideas and that should help them find a good subject to discuss on their paper. Another type of prewriting is free writing;, you fill a piece of paper with any idea that comes to mind about your…
