Cleopatra was a Hellenistic ruler of Egypt and succeeded in shaping the Ancient world. She ruled Egypt in the 1st Century BC and was the last Queen to do so. She is undoubtedly one of the most famous persons of her time and there is a huge amount of evidence…
She was well-educated and intelligent, two of some of her most powerful traits that she used to her advantage. She was wealthy and powerful, a woman who ruled over one of the greatest Kingdoms of her time and who was a skilled diplomat who knew how to showcase her personality and her affluence. She managed to make negotiations with two powerful men, also capturing their hearts as well with her striking personality. Her rule was influential and her mark on history is still fresh and relevant to this day. She knew exactly where she stood and she was not afraid to display her dominance and her authority, which was thought to be divine in that day. She personally led her own army into battle alongside her husband and even though they were defeated, it was still a gallant act that perfectly showcased her bravery and her unquestionable authority. After losing the battle, both Cleopatra and Antony knew that it was over for the both of them and so they both chose to take their own lives while watching their kingdom become a Roman province, marking the end of Egypt’s independence and autonomy. If it had not been for her alliance with either Caesar or Antony, history would have taken a very different course than it originally had. If Antony had not betrayed Rome in the…

In Stacy Schiff’s award winning biography, Cleopatra: A Life, she penetrates the life of Queen Cleopatra and breaks down her origin, major events, and all the other accomplishments of the young queen. This would be a very pleasing book for readers who really want to know more about Queen Cleopatra or are just learning of her. The author provided a great deal of detail to the life of Cleopatra when it came to the queen’s origin and uprising to power. Schiff went into great depth with the structure of her novel in how she exclaimed how Cleopatra rose to the throne at age eighteen and the many ways she sustained her power in the kingdom as well as making allies. The author’s tone and interpretation of Cleopatra really make this book that much better in my opinion. But I could not really decipher the author’s thesis but to the best of my ability I see it as the author is trying to get her readers to envision Cleopatra in a whole new light as the powerful queen that Schiff sees.…
Researchers believe that today there are only about 80 pyramids left from ancient Egypt. The pyramids were built as tombs for the Pharaohs and their queens. During their time on earth, it was believed that the Pharaohs were the link between the people and gods and when the Pharaohs died, they became gods. Since they expected to become gods in the afterlife, the Pharaohs had massive pyramid tombs built for them and filled them with all the things they would need in the afterlife.…
Every single living thing on Earth must have water in order to survive. Even ancient Egyptians thriving in the middle of the sahara desert in the year 2920 BCE could not remain for as long as they did without water. They depended on the Nile for almost everything. It benefitted and supported the people’s lifestyles in several different ways. Their world revolved around the Nile. It provided old essentials such as food, water, transportation, shelter, religion, and jobs. Now, if we want to travel or need to eat our first thought will not be the importance of rivers like ancient cultures did. The Nile River shaped Ancient Egypt ways including Economics, Settlement and Jobs, and Religion.…
Firstly, Cleopatra’s submissiveness and political dependency on Julius Caesar proved to be less beneficial in contrast to her relationship Marc Antony. In 48BC, she was a young 22 year old trying to regain her Ptolemaic throne from her brother, she knew he was the most powerful in the world and understood that that the Roman Consul was the only one who could aid her. Bradford noted that Cleopatra realized the “only one weapon that her brother, back by his powerful advisers, did not have [was]-her sex.” (70) The speculation that she was sneakily presented to him rolled up in a carpet displayed her submissiveness…
This question will be explored by looking into the downfall of the Roman Republic and if Cleopatra had a key role in this – and was therefore a fatale monstrum – or if another cause was the reason so the end of the republic was probably inevitable. There is the option that despite it being obvious that the republic would end eventually, Cleopatra’s influence, and the power she was thought to have had (by the Senate and Roman people) over key figures such as Caesar and Antony, caused the end to come much sooner than it would be. The relationship between Cleopatra and the Romans- in particular Caesar and Antony- has been debated widely in the context of what her role was in the ruling of Rome. Cleopatra was considered by many to have a significant role in Rome leading up to its falling as a Republic especially with many believing that she significantly altered the way Rome was ruled under Caesar and allowed Antony to go to war with Augustus by providing him with an army. How the Roman republic fell is key in discovering why the modern world is how it is now due to the major role Rome and its huge empire had in the making of how society is shaped today. The way in which Cleopatra managed to infiltrate into Roman society shows her skill in foreign relations as well as Caesars susceptibility to foreign queens- of which he was believed to have had relations with many- helped Cleopatra to prevent the downfall of…
The development of Egypt was essentially impacted by its geographical features. Because agriculture was of significant importance to ancient Egyptians, it was also the foundation of Egypt’s prosperity.…
The Ancient Egyptians were not just a group of people that used the Nile river as a resource to live. They were more then that. They invented many things that shaped our modern world. Their religion, architecture and the way they used their resources to their advantage is just some of the ways they shaped our modern world. Five thousand years separates us and the Egyptians, its just hard to believe that they have contributed in great amounts to our modern world.…
In the earliest known times, the dead in Egypt, were buried directly beneath the ground. Bodies were often preserved well in the ground if it was buried in a particularly sandy or dry spot due to Egypt’s climate being an extremely hot, dry and therefor arid environment. The bodies were generally buried in a fetal (curled up) position and only buried with a few simple pots or other small goods. Eventually, the richer individuals felt the need for something better, so the Egyptians built simple mud-brick tombs called Mastabas (bench in Arabic). These houses for the dead created a problem that needed resolving. Since the bodies were no longer being buried in the sand there was nothing to naturally preserve it. So when family members would return…
