In 1939 Wendell Johnson set up ‘The Monster Study’, which involved placing 22 orphan children into two experimental groups, the ‘stutterers’ and the ‘non-stutterers’. Though it is important to note that only half of the children put into the ‘stuttering’ group actually had a stuttering problem. The non-stuttering group were given positive speech therapy, praising how well and fluent they spoke, while the other group received negative speech therapy, criticised for every single imperfection and told they were stutterers. By the end of the experiment the children who before had had no problems with their speech now did, and 3 of the 5 children who already had stutters were considerably worse.…

In this paper I will discuss the pros and cons of each research method with respect to both a new product launch and a revised product launch. I will also explain why there are different research needs for a new product versus a re-launch. Most research can be divided into two categories. “Primary research can be defined as research designed and conducted by the person or group originating the request” (Primary Research, 2012). “Secondary research can be defined as utilizing existing research data gathered by an external source (Secondary Research, 2012). There are a wide variety of information-gathering techniques. The various data collection methods are mail surveys, telephone surveys, face to face surveys, and focus groups. The product I that I will focus on will be a new vehicle to determine which research method works the best. One must first decide what the research question is and then decide what data or variables are needed to scientifically answer the question to provide the best results for the product.…

In the nineties corporations realised that due to economic and business pressures, corporations need to focus on core business activities. In addition rapid technology advances rendered the provision of IT services free from the business location. The introduction of concepts such as "location-less" and "distances-less" provision of IT services gave rise to an increasing demand for outsourced IT services (Bierce, Spohr and Shab, 2004:5). These technology advances also provided the opportunity to exploit the benefits of offshore outsourcing.…

Companies benefit through employee loyalty. Crude downsizing in organizations during the recession crushed the loyalty of millions. The economic benefits of loyalty embrace lower recruitment and training costs, higher productivity of workers, customer satisfaction, and boost the morale of fresh recruits. In order that these benefits may not be lost, some companies, while downsizing, try various gimmicks. Flex leave, for instance, is one. This helps employees receive 20% of their salary, plus employer-provided benefits while they take a 6-12 month sabbatical, with a call option on their services. Others try alternatives like more communication, hand-holding, and the like.…
