EAC 150 Comparison Essay Compare one story/reading in column A to one in column B:
Column A Column B “Desiree’s Baby” “Big Meeting” “The Prophecy” “Trespass” “Gateman’s Gift” “I’m a Banana and Proud of It” “Why my Mother Can’t Speak English”

“Leslie in California” --with regard to one of the following topics:

1. Relationships Between Men and Women (or, males and females) 2. The Use of Violence
3. An issue that affects society at large.

Additional Instructions:

1: Write 800 – 1000 words. Word process your essay, using double-spacing.

2: In your essay, make specific reference to three or four secondary sources (i.e., books, articles, or websites on the writings of your two authors – not by). Do not use non-scholarly sources ending in “.com”, such as private blogs or essay-writing services (e.g., www.essays2order.com). Use MLA style for page references after each quote from a secondary source, as well as for quotes from the stories themselves (e.g., (Atwood, 11)). Be sure to connect what the secondary source says, to what you are trying to show. In addition, follow MLA style (as in your documentation tutorial/workshop) for the “Works Cited” list at the end of your report.

3: Avoid long quotes from the stories or the secondary sources (that is, anything over 25 words).

4: Be sure to build your essay around a central thesis, or statement of what you are trying to prove in your comparison of the two stories – and state that thesis in your opening paragraph. Then proceed to demonstrate and prove it, with at least three separate arguments, each supported by specific examples...

6: Give your essay an interesting title, with main words capitalized.
7: Your essay is due via safe assign and hand-delivered hard copy as well in class on Day 2 Week 9.
