A. Services: Description and Purpose

1. Introduction

Air-O-Paper, Inc. (AOP) was formed in 1989 by two entrepreneurs in Redlands, Ca. Arabelle Glemstock and Mark Trendleton were both artisans by trade, owning a specialty business—Fibers and Inks—that specialized in hand-made papers, stationary and hard-to-find, exotic paper blends from around the world along with collector writing implements. As a side hobby, Mr. Trendleton practiced the ancient craft of Origami and was locally known not only for his intricate paper animals, but also his deftly designed paper airplanes. It was a natural extension of their business to begin selling paper airplanes, and then kits for paper airplanes. This soon blossomed into a much larger enterprise with a second store opening in Ontario and then a third in Orange County followed by a fourth store in trendy Newport Beach. Within eight years, six more stores opened, three as far north as San Francisco and the arts community of Carmel, California. Air-O-Paper had become a force of its own, filling a unique niche for children and adults and expanding beyond paper airplane art to kites and ecology-sensitive flying craft powered by solar and green battery technologies. Today, AOP is a thriving business employing over 30 full-time partners and 150 part-time and seasonal staff throughout the year in addition to maintaining consulting relationships with artists and craftspeople throughout California.

In the 2010-2011 fiscal year, budget was set aside to address a growing issue: updating to new business software and training full-time staff in key programs that affect productivity and communication. The initial phase of the training will focus on programs in Microsoft® Office Professional 2010®.
