Removement Puddles
Puddles on your asphalt pavement are unwelcome for a variety of reasons. Vehicles driving through the puddles can splash pedestrians, and drivers may not appreciate the dousing that their vehicles receive. During the winter months, the puddles can freeze, making your parking lot hazardous to pedestrians and drivers alike. What you may not realize, however, is that standing water can shorten the life of your pavement. If the water finds a crack or other break in the pavement that it can enter, it may erode the pavement's base and destabilize it. Potholes, alligator cracking and large cracks can result, leaving you with a costly repair bill.

Why Do Puddles Form?
Puddles form in pavement depressions that can be caused by a number of different things.

The weight of these heavy loads can deform asphalt, leaving depressions behind.
• Remove oil and other automotive fluids as soon as possible. Establish a schedule for routine cleanings to prevent damage to your pavement.
• Do not leave heavy objects sitting on the pavement for an extended period. If you must use part of your parking lot for palletized materials, for example, move them to a different spot periodically, particularly during the summer months.
• If you have catch basins or storm drains, keep them free from debris. If they clog, water can back up and collect on your pavement.

It fades due to UV exposure and develops stains from automobiles. Some cracking and potholes are sure to happen if you don't keep up with repairs. One of the best things you can do for your lot is to have a new sealcoat put on every year or two depending on how well your lot holds up under all the traffic. A sealcoat is much thinner than the asphalt layer that is poured on when the lot is resurfaced. Applying a sealcoat is more like painting the lot. The coating restores the dark color of the lot so it stays looking like new. It also forms a waterproof barrier that protects the asphalt from developing cracks and potholes. Sealcoating even provides UV protection so the lot won't fade as…

Concerns that I have for our watershed is that people would be people pollute the storm drains that then could cause an algae bloom. I found evidence to support this claim from coastal-watershed.org/threats-to-watershed-health/ where it states “Urban Runoff or ‘storm drain pollution’ is one of the leading causes of water pollution in this country. Urban areas contain up to 90 percent hard surfaces such as rooftops and pavement where water collects and quickly runs off. Urban Runoff is difficult to prevent because it is nonpoint pollution. That is, instead of originating from a single-point source, such as a factory or sewage treatment plant, the sources of urban runoff are spread throughout an urban area. Such sources include yards, sidewalks,…
