The purpose of Lincoln’s speech was, not only to dedicate a plot of land to the fallen soldiers, but also to inspire his people to continue the fight.…
Lincoln’s speech at Gettysburg not only memorialized the deaths of the fallen, but also, through the use of the rhetorical strategies of repetition, pathos, and syntax, served as a away to get the people to continue the war. His syntax was most effective in the way that his speech was only composed of two hundred and seventy-words and still serves as one of the greatest speeches ever made. Lincoln’s repetition was used very carefully concentrating on the words being repeated and finally his use of pathos. Lincoln used pathos in away that affected the audience’s emotional views about the battle and the emotional connection between him and the audience. Lincoln’s speech was successful because of these rhetoric devices.…

Sand between my toes and enjoying some sun while gathered around with a group of friends is what I call, a definition of a great time. The ad Tampax Pearl from Seventeen magazines sells the product through the use of rhetorical fallacies logos, ethos, and pathos. There are six fallacies, and throughout the magazine they are represented by the text, the women in the white bikini, and the beach: false cause, hasty generalization, non sequitur, and appeal to ignorance, false authority, and bandwagon. In the background are the sounds of waves clashing against one another, the sun beginning to lower, and the scent of a bonfire. The game of limbo used as an entertainment to influence laughter, and competition spread to one another.…

Well-known Sci-fi writer, Ray Bradbury, in his novel, Fahrenheit 451, illustrates that relationships reflect who individuals are and who they want to be. Bradbury’s purpose is to promote the idea that a person should have the courage to listen to their own beliefs and thoughts of happiness rather than to blend in with society. He adopts a disoriented and poetic tone in order to appeal to similar feelings and experiences on a non-realistic scale in his young adult readers.…
Conflict can be resolved between individuals when they truly accept the different values others possess and learn to acknowledge this diversity. Acceptance was what was needed in order to overcome the racial and cultural barrier. When Julius says “Attitude reflects leadership, Captain” it causes Bertier to realise what was needed to be done in order for the team to unify. Coach Boone makes an inspirational and significant speech at the battlefield of Gettysburg. The background non-diegetic triumphant music suggests that both sides are beginning to change, that they were starting to accept and respect each…
Respected, strong and intelligent, three great synonyms for Remember the Titans’ Coach Herman Boone, yet like the rest of race, he was not always treated as an equal. Throughout the film Coach Boone deals with many everyday struggles, yet his responses deliver a very important lesson. Early in the film when the team is boarding the bus for camp, Coach Boone faces a problem when Gary demands half of the team to be white and states they “don’t need any of his people on defense”, referring to the black students. This is the first time that the audience sees how Coach Boone stands for disrespect and discrimination as he proceeds to humiliate Gary and his friend, establishing the respect he demands, in front of their peers, by repeating that he…
Racism is a theme that stands out from the rest as it affects everyone in Coach Boone’s team. In the film, racism is a large-scale issue that is addressed and resolved. An example of Racism in the film is when Gerry says, “I don’t wanna play with any of those black animals,” this shows that Gerry is making a racist comment toward the other race different to his own. This example is an obvious sign of racial discrimination toward the team.…
Modern society has advanced into the age of technology, in which people rely on cell phones, music players, and even communicate through social networking. Facebook is the leading social networking site, and is the basis for Hal Niedzviecki's essay "Facebook in a Crowd". Two rhetorical devices do support the argument that is presented later in the essay, and they are humor and pathos appeal. Niedzviecki also uses a narrative form of writing to tell a story about a man with a near seven-hundred online friends on Facebook, but he does not know any of them. Facebook has become an issue for some people, and that becomes a personal issue for the narrator, that develops the argument being expressed throughout the essay.…
A film technique that relates to the leadership taken by Coach Boone is the dialogue. He has conversations with all participants in his team, but at times he can embarass them. For example, when Petey fails to catch the ball on a full throw, coach Boone yells at him as if he is across the other side of the field, he made shore that Petey would get it into his mind that he needs to pick up his slack. Another example is when Gerry is demanding coach boone…
Herman Boone is a respected character in the film. He had to accept the new team and the old coach, Yoast which was now the assistant coach. Both coaches had to learn to work together. They finally accepted each other and the titans went on to win the state championships. Yoast started to accept Boone when he heard Boone talk about the fight at Gettysburg where black and whites had been fighting against each other. Through dialogue, Boone revealed to the players “If we don’t come together at this point “ about how the futility of battle, how it had torn families apart, dividing friends, creating rifts. Yoast then realized why Boone was so harsh on the team .He realized that Boone wanted to overcome the continual racism. This was shown by the use of camera angles extreme close up and close up to show the emotion from Boones speech. It showed how he was tormented by the continual fighting, sad that the players were continuing the same fight years ago. Yoast realized that Boone was only trying to bring the individual players together as one…
