Remember the Titans Essay – Draft

‘Remember the Titans’ directed by Boaz Yakin is a film that demonstrates many important themes. The three that are the most significant in the story are racism, determination and acceptance. Racism, as it shows the hatred of another race or other races and is a major obstacle that today’s society needs to tackle. Determination is a quality that requires someone’s mind to be set on a certain goal that they think they may not be able to fulfil. Acceptance for each and every race is an essential quality as it makes the earth a happier place. All three of these themes are greatly displayed throughout the film as this piece will explain.

Racism is a theme that stands out from the rest as it affects everyone in Coach Boone’s team. In the film, racism is a large-scale issue that is addressed and resolved. An example of Racism in the film is when Gerry says, “I don’t wanna play with any of those black animals,” this shows that Gerry is making a racist comment toward the other race different to his own. This example is an obvious sign of racial discrimination toward the team.

The quality of determination is an apparent theme in the film as it shows the Titans are committed to showing this quality, if they keep their minds to it. As seen in the movie, Coach Boone is determined to unite the races as he believes that the ongoing hatred between the different ethnic groups should stop. Boone announces, “Each of you will spend time every day with a team mate from a different race,” by saying this he shows that he is determined to make the team become one. This instance of determination is a quality that is essential in achieving what you want.

The feeling of acceptance is important because it makes you feel that you belong. During the movie ‘Remember the Titans’ the characters get to know each other’s races and accept everybody for who they are, regardless of their colour, race and how they speak and so on. The quality of acceptance is displayed when Gerry says to the nurse at the hospital, “Alice, are you blind? Can’t you see the family resemblance? He’s my brother.” Gerry is referring to Julius, who is a different colour to himself, so it shows that Gerry accepts Julius for who he is and even considers him as his brother. This example shows us that the acceptance of others is vital as it can unite one another.

In conclusion, these three themes of Determination, Racism and Acceptance are the most important in the movie, ‘Remember the Titans’ directed by Boaz Yakin. The three themes above are what make the team bond regardless of their colour, race, how they speak or what they look like and is essential as it makes the world a better, happier place.

Brian’s Song and Remember the Titans are not just stories about football but about much more. These books show what it truly is to be a team. Team is about everyone sticking up for one another and forgetting about differences. I have always had the motto in my head as team meaning Together Everyone Achieves More. In these stories you can tell that motto is slowly but surely shining through. Think about it this way if you are on a team and your starting player breaks there leg the night before the championship game your team has to work even harder to make up for the missing player. That is what happened in Brian’s Song and Remember the titans. They both had to come together in this way but also…

Boone and Yoast are the two main coaches in Remember the Titans. Boone is the new african-american coach and his coaching style is a firm, aggressive one, with high expectations and tough way of reaching these expectations. He is often seen yelling at his players, but never in a way that could be seen as detrimental. Coach Yoast on the other hand uses positive reinforcement to make a better team. He is never seen yelling, is more subtle in his intentions, and although he too has the same high expectations like Boone, he is softer in his ways.…

In the movie "Remember the Titans," there were major racial difficulties between black and white students. This was during a time when the school had just been integrated to allow blacks into the school and the high school football team. These challenges helped the Titans grow as a team and made them more co-operative and successful. The difficulties of a multiracial team were overcome with the assistance of democratic and authoritarian coaching styles, motivational skills, self-fulfilling prophecy, and the perception of the athletes and coaches. Because of these actions, the Titans were able to defeat the challenges they were faced with as a team and come out superior.…

It’s surprisingly easy to comment on Coach Boone’s leadership in the film Remember the Titans and for a very good reason too. Coach Boone loved his team and led them well. If someone who hasn’t seen the movie doesn’t know who Coach Boone is, he is the head captain of the newly integrated football team. He, through the course of the season, leads his team, the Titans, into a season where they were unbeatable. That fact alone would be amazing, but the fact he did all this while having to deal with the racial tension in the school is almost unbelievable. Coach Boone is an amazing leader and an amazing person in general.…

A character in Remember The Titans that represented the “I” in “PRIDE,” was Coach Bill Yoast. He showed integrity. Integrity is doing what’s right even if it is not what you want. Coach Yoast showed integrity during one of the games when the referees didn’t like Coach Boone because of his race. The referees called penalties on almost every play against the Titans, even when they were clean plays. Coach Yoast did what was right and stood up for Coach Boone and…

Another example of prejudice that was woven into the film began with Jean and her Los Angeles district attorney husband Rick. The two are out on a date a few days before Christmas when the two are carjacked by two African American men. These are just two examples of racially biased incidents occurring all over various parts of Los Angeles. The movie is comprised of all of these different stories of racial intolerance and stereotyping that causes them to suffer.…
