Rember the Titans- Pride and Humility
What is pride? "Pride is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins, and indeed the ultimate source from which the others arise. But pride is often what drives people to do what they do a good example of this is during the movie when Juluis and Jerry hold a meeting about how race should not have any role in the team. This segment of the movie highlights the importance of achieving goals instead of failing to give compliments to others though they may be deserving of them, and break the “walls” that separate them. In today's superficial society, it's hard to meet people who don't think highly of themselves this is how pride can become a double edged sward. It seems that everywhere you turn you hear people bragging about their self this is when pride turns to arrogance, when Coach Yoast begins to consider not coaching so that the next year he could win an award, but he swallows his pride and does what is right. Arrogant it's also called being conceited or being vain. We've all encountered people who are full of themselves, but the people who are very full of themselves often never demonstrate humility. Those who are truly confident and who have healthy self-esteems don't have to walk around bragging about how pretty or how good-looking they are. Pride and arrogance just doesn't mean that one brags about how beautiful or good-looking they are, they also tend to brag and boast about other things. Like how much money they have, the clothes they have, the type of car they drive, etc etc. Quite frankly one's confidence shouldn't be based off how good they look, a person's confidence should come from their Character and personality. It should come from their morals and values. Pride has a complete opposite, its opposite is humility. "Humility is the defining characteristic of an unpretentious and modest person, someone who does not think that he or she is better or more important than others. Modest behavior, selflessness, and the

Many people would never consider pride as to being a sin, however the Catholic Church considers pride to be a sin because pride is about "me", "myself" and "I", they only worry about themselves and no one else. Although people might not believe it, today's society is filled with pride; from being proud of your heritage to being proud of your sexuality, pride is all around. The Catholic Church wants them to forget about themselves and go out and help others.
