Relationship Learning Course Analysis
I now shake my head at the number of emails I sent my advisor over the summer because of my dissatisfaction with my schedule for my first semester of college. Finally, I found relief when my credit hours went from 16 to 19 and I now had two business related classes instead of one. I had been enrolled in a course Principles of Selling in exchange for not dropping a course my advisor was going to be teaching. I flipped open my advising book and noticed that the class was labeled “year four” and immediately my face flushed. I’ve never struggled in school, and my biggest fear was biting off more than I could chew in college. Looking back, I now see that this course is not a senior level class but is a class upperclassman typically take in order to balance their schedules. I assumed by the name of the class that I was going to be randomly called upon to stand in front of the class and sell something like a pen, so I made a mental note with different ways to attack this challenged. I have never been more pleasantly surprised when I realized the course was not about personal selling ability, but instead about building a foundation with the art of selling and practical steps for students to use. Once I realized I was not going to be under a spot …show more content…
In this bonus, I wrote to an influential figure in my life. Immediately, my mind was drawn to a high school teacher that felt more like family. While writing the card, I reflected back on memories we had made, and incorporated them into the card. His response back outweighed the bonus points and will be something I cherish forever. I know I has built a strong relationship when I receive such personal response back. Apparently, I had been using selling strategies every day without even realizing it. From that response, a new conversation about school followed, so I regained motivation that I had not realized I had

For certain colleges do not offer what students need specifically for their academic path at the time they are available; do not have them at all. This causes students to “[Take] longer, since they register for fewer courses then they need to stay on track,” which illustrates the difficulty with managing the students’ courses and daily lives (Marcus 144). In which, affects mostly the students who are working part-time jobs, and work schedules are not flexible; making them unavailable for classes. Upon entering my freshman year of college I recognized I was not fully prepared for the rigorous academic scheme provided at my school, Howard University. One of the main observations was my peers received educational training in Advanced Placement General Chemistry, Advanced Placement Organic Chemistry and even had the opportunity to attend actual college courses during his/her high school careers. Those classes were not an option for me through my high school. Soon I found myself falling into a pit of failure. Long hours of studying and tutoring only produced D’s, F’s and an occasional C on my Chemistry reports. I was thoroughly ready to quit. I still remember sitting in my professor’s office in tears when he informed me that my academic…

I am a Running Start student and the first quarter I took a class called Music Appreciation. I knew I needed an art credit to graduate high school and the class sounded easy. The first day of class when the professor handed out the syllabus I realized that the course content hadn’t consisted of what I had expected. Rather than cover a broad topic of all types of music the course focused heavily on understanding the history and meaning of Classical Music.…

After two unforgettable years at Rockland Community College, I gained my associates in Math and Science. During my time at this college, I managed to recognize my full potential, and received outstanding grades every semester. Although many times I had some difficulties, I continued to push myself more and more each day. Fortunately, I had some help. I had this anatomy and physiology professor who changed my entire perspective of education. She had strong character, and was extremely intimidating. Due to her character, I wanted to make sure I did my best in…

The Human Experience course, also known as, HMXP, is a general education course taught at Winthrop University. This course is the second of the General Education Core, coming between Writing 101 and CRTW 201. According to Withrop.edu, this course “explores the self and its relationship to education, to community, to the natural world, and to the sacred (General Education Core). Dr. Gloria Jones states in her letter to the students, “our hope is that you leave this class with greater self-knowledge and with an awareness of perspectives that are different from your own” (The Human Experience iii). Although some may say HMXP is not beneficial to their academic development, I will argue that HMXP should continue to be a required course for all…

Academically, the school system has always provided me the tools so that I could learn, but outside the traditional high school classroom, there is a myriad of opportunities where knowledge can be obtained. The summer before my senior year in high school the opportunity to take classes at the University of Louisville was bequeathed upon me. My parents guided me into possibly taking core content material classes, for example, math or science. However, there was a wide range of classes in which I could partake in, but the ones which caught my attention were in the Sociology department. Although my parents were not thrilled with my decision of taking leisurely courses which were possibly not going to count towards my future major in college, I felt it was the intelligent decision.…

When my parents first expressed to me that I needed to take advanced courses starting freshman year, I was skeptical. I desired an easy, laid-back experience in high school; however, my parents declared otherwise. I began freshman year with three honors classes, and the parental expectation to make at least ninety-five percent in all of my classes. At the time, I thought this to be too extreme, but little did I know that colleges look back on all grades…

My junior year of high school, according to several of my trust worthy teachers, should be rigorous and competitive if I ever wanted a chance to get into college. Naturally, being a gullible fool, I signed up for two AP classes, an honor class, and a sport. As a sport I chose wrestling, it was very time consuming but I knew I could manage. I felt pretty confident about AP biology and Algebra 2 honors since they were subjects I was fairly skilled in. but as for my other AP course, AP language and Composition, I was a bit uneasy.…

It was a beautiful summer day at the beginning of my senior year. Students were anxious to meet their teachers and begin the last year of their high school career. There were those excited to graduate that knew exactly what they wanted to do with their life. Then there were those like me who had no idea what college they would be attending the following year. I knew I wanted to go to college, but I had no idea which one I wanted to attend or what my major would be. After I arrived that morning, I walked into the crowded hallway of my 4A public school on my way to my first and hardest class, pre-calculus AP. I was one of the last ones to enter the classroom and had no other choice but to sit next to my ex-best friend. It was already a bad day. Once the bell rang, Mr. Rogers, an older teacher with gray hair and big circular glasses, stood in front of the classroom and began teaching our first lesson. Within five minutes of the lesson, I was already lost. Once he turned around to see if anyone had questions, I was the first one to raise my hand.…

    My Working Experience

I am eager to improve myself, which is why I took 23 credits worth of courses in one semester, while simultaneously working part time up to 20 hours a week. I performed well, which is why I pushed myself even further. I took calculus II over the summer, while working longer hours. It did not work out well for me academically, and serves as my one poor recent grade. Although I struggled with the course over the summer, I don’t regret taking the course because it taught me a lot about how I learn information. Our minds are like sponges, and when I was taking 23 credits during the semester I was able to absorb the steady stream of knowledge from various different sources, despite the high volume. However, during the month long summer sequence I was being hit with a fire hose of information. Instead of absorbing the information, I was blasted back. After the fire hose turned off for the day, I was only able to absorb the remaining puddle of information around me, during the limited amount of time I was not working. I learned the lesson that I should have familiarized myself with the content covered in the class before taking it during the summer. I am currently taking calculus II during the Fall semester, and my familiarity with the material has led to me currently have a grade above 100 after the first exam. In the future I will familiarize myself with the information covered…

When I first arrived to Richmond Early College High School, I anticipated an academic career characterized by hard work, nightly homework assignments, and incredible doses of stress that a middle school classroom could not synthesize. Although I actually landed my first college class in the second semester of my ninth grade year (ACA, which was required for all newbies and taken simultaneously by all 50 of us), I found myself still shaken. I looked forwarded to the challenges of a college experience, but merely hearing the click of my instructor's heel's as I sat in that classroom for the first time sent my bones into a furious rattle. A worrywart by nature, I was both delighted and horrified by ACA.…

On top of that, I plan to take early college classes. Being in AP classes is a true test of one’s perseverance and ability to discipline yourself of being punctual, managing time one’s wisely, and putting nothing but your best in all your work. My sophomore year, I joined AP Human Geography with Mrs. Koanui, and admittedly, I struggled with self-discipline in regards to time management. Thus, resulting in numerous counts of restless nights, along with several other factors concerning social and extracurricular activities, disrupted my focus in the class. Additionally, I turned in countless late works in the third and fourth terms, but taking part in such a rigorous class allowed for me to be a better, more focused, and industrious student in both my current regular and AP classes. Furthermore, I find myself with better time management skills and I currently am able to balance both my studies social interactions, having extra time even. I firmly believe that being a well-rounded student is a key role in success as both an individual and student. I attempt my best to partake in as many clubs as I can, and currently, involved in five other…
