Introduction
Energies are many folds, they are available naturally, and are also made available through science and technology in different ways, intended for the purposes we desire. This light that enables us to see, the x-rays (which gives us pictures of bones and soft tissue), the gamma and ultraviolet rays (which are used for sterilization), infrared, the microwave (microwave ovens and cell phones), radio waves, extremely low frequency waves etc. are all packed in the radiation that emanates from the sun. From time immemorial human race knew that the ultimate source of energy for the earth is from the sun. Modern science has established that this energy is quantifiable, for better understanding, as electromagnetic radiation, EMR.

There are many studies which have shown the association between cataract and UV radiation exposure. Cataract and Age related macular degeneration are the causes for blinding disorder and studies have shown its association with UV Exposure. Wavelengths at 300 nm with energy of 0.5 to 12.6 J/cm2. Photoretinitis is caused by wavelengths of 320 to 400 nm. Cataracts are shown to be formed from 0.5 to 12.6 J/cm2 causes cataract.
UV C Radiation
About 90% of radiation of low pressure mercury discharge lamps is at 254nm and is used in disinfection of air, liquids, solids and food. The radiation may vary between 250 and 265 nm (corresponds to maximum in DNA absorption spectrum). It is very effective in germicidal action, against bacteria and virus. The lamps are called germicidal lamps, bactericidal lamps or UVC lamps.

Higher the frequency lower the potential health hazard (thermal effects). For frequencies less than 3000 MHz the radiation is absorbed in the skin. When the frequency is higher than 3000 MHz penetrates the skin and absorbed in the tissues increasing the body temperature. A core temperature rise of 2 /hr is estimated to occur in humans under a whole body SAR of 1- 4 w/Kg at 70 MHz. This heating of biological tissues could result in burns, cataract, possible detrimental effect on reproduction and even death.
