How does this Apply to me as a Leader: As a child I was a bossy kid. I heard people talking behind my back and it hurt. But, after overcoming the guilt and sadness I decided to change and really worked on it. I hated the fact if my idea wasn’t considered. Basically, I wanted things done my way. I learnt that I can never always be right and watched some of my seniors do a great job being the Head Boy in my school. I was four to five years younger than them but I observed the way they spoke and behaved in public and two of my seniors really inspired me to dream about becoming the Head Boy in my 12th grade. I was part of the Future Leaders of York program in 2016. The program is for high school sophomores and juniors from York county. “FLY” taught me how to be a lifelong, responsible, and active leader in my hometown community. Throughout the year, I read from Leading with Character by John Sosik. Sosik explained that their are 6 types of effective leader characteristics: humanity, wisdom, transcendence, temperance, courage, and justice. Each session focused on these aspects of leadership. My experience was incredibly informative as it helped me grow personally and it prepared my for my future endeavors.…

According to Plato, leadership is not just a power or decision-making authority; it is the system and process developed to establish the culture and how things are done in an organization or government. The nature of leadership should be driven by what is right and what is just. Plato believed that a monarch who served the best interest of the citizens was preferred to direct democracies that act to serve their own personal interest. According to Plato, leaders should serve the good of the people and not the good of the rulers or themselves. Plato felt that good leaders could only be men wise in years with education and experience. A person leads based on their knowledge,…

But, I’m only going to go into detail on one. I was an emerging leader, and it was a class that you apply to take when you’re going into your sophomore year, and was aimed at bringing together a diverse array of leaders from all types of organizations on campus. The class was directed by my school’s head of the Center for Leadership & Service department and she certainly is great at her job. Every class was different and unique. Some were aimed at a different way to look at the world, those around you, the way others think, the way others are treated in society, and a wide array of popular leadership theories and insights into how to inspire others and yourself. I still remember what my class came up as our definition of what leadership is to us and it still applies to me today. It was, “Leadership is a continuous developmental process towards the growth of oneself and those around them.” I like the idea of trying to have the mentality of always choosing the positive option in life. This, and the other leadership experience’s I have had are some of the few experiences that I have walked away truly feeling like I grew as a person, taking away with me both new knowledge and leadership skills that will dramatically help me handle the daily struggles that the professional world offers. The leadership programs I attended set a catalyst to my interest in people…
