15 years, 14 weeks, 5 days and 44 minutes later, heretofore known as Now, Young Sigrid became ‘The Pie-Maker’, opening her own bakery, complete with a pie-crust roof and aptly named ‘The Pie Hole’. It was her sanctuary, a place where her gift of mysterious origin and dangerous consequence could do some good. No fruit ever went to waste in the Pie-Maker’s hand, but would retain its ripe flavour forever more, so long as she did not touch it again. When asked what it was that gave the fruit pies their fresh and flavoursome appeal, the Pie-Maker would shrug with a modest smile and simply said that it was her late mother’s recipes that made all the difference.…

The argument for abolishing the Electoral College has been around for a while, but rose to its peak in 2000 when George W. Bush was elected President despite losing the popular vote to Al Gore. The Electoral College is a voting system of 538 electors that vote on a state level based on the number of congressmen. The Electoral College is fair, simply due to the fact that the rules are known upfront. However, I don’t think the Popular Vote is fair at all it’s a system based on each indivual’s vote that decides the outcome of the election. The Electoral College vote doesn’t carry the same weight for every person’s vote. Every state is entitled to at least three electoral votes, regardless of whether or not the state’s population justifies it. This is basically giving them a second chance to win President or Vice President.…

Being such a fast-paced industry, there is no doubt that there are challenges that will lie ahead for those who seek professions in the food service industry. This, of course, means pastry chefs are no exception. The title of a pastry chef means preparing an array of desserts including, but not limited to, cakes, tarts, cookies, ice cream, chocolate, and puff pastries. Since pastry chefs can work anywhere from a small shop in a small town to a high-end restaurant in NYC, certain expectations such as works hours may differ, but the overall tasks remain the same: pastry-making. While pastry chefs don’t work with every kind of food as other food workers would, the challenges faced by pastry chefs are just as diverse as that of all other food workers in the industry. Challenges faced by pastry chefs include competitiveness, meeting high expectations and coping with long work hours.…
