Regional Policing Regional policing is a good approach for efficiencies. Especially between small cities or towns, regional policing can not only actually improve the speed of response times but allow for greater flexibility. The costs alone must not be the only consideration. Policing provides essential public safety, which must be improved, not diminished. However, this approach has its problem that police chiefs need to take care of. In this case, I will use Greenfield and Soledad as examples since these two cities are about to make regional policing happen there. Greenfield had 15000 population in 2009. Most people at most of the time do not need police services. But when they are needed, they want a response now. Regional policing will increase the number of officers on duty or patrol. This can also make the community feel safe since they see officers on street more often than before. Familiarity is one of the problems police officer have to face. However, this can be solved by holding a city meeting and talk to the community. Community will accept the "new" officers in short time. As a chief of police, he/she must know that the problem of familiarity is not only from the community, but also from both of the department. Two department must now have the same regulation. They must use the same code and same radio frequency. They also need to be on the same page about the "grey area". Having a mandatory meeting for both police department can help this. Also, put two officers from different departments on same shift will enhance the speed of merging police force. Regional policing is not a whole new idea of law enforcement system. Some of the cities or even counties in other state had already started regional policing. However, each city has its own problems. The purpose of regional policing, again, is not to just reduce the cost of police units. To serve the community better and faster is the goal of regional
