Reflective Writing Challenges
A difficulty I am currently going through is a struggle that I have had for several years. What my challenge was is that I struggle with school itself. More specifically, I struggle with just stop what I am doing and just write down the work. This problem is currently affecting my class strongly and keeping me from possibly graduating. As I am going through the last months of this year I am learning the severity of the problem and how I should deal with it in the future.

Now I was not trying purposely trying to do this, so I never knew how to address the problem. I only realized what exactly the problem was when this year I started a reading class that I should of been excelling at because I love to read. One of the main assignments was to every couple of pages were to write down how you feel what you were reading. Now I thought that would be easy for me, but as I soon learned that I was not able to stop reading without reminding myself to stop every once and awhile. Now I would have let this go on and not have noticed this until the grade came back for it and I found out the assignment was worth 100 points. It made me realise that I had an issue that I needed to fix.

I started making sure that would pause in whatever I did to make sure the work was done. I started to set up times where I would stop to make sure that I did some work before moving on. Then later I would repeat the process until the assignment was done. These moments when I paused to get work done where about 10 to 12 minutes apart. I chose this because it works for most of my class schedules, given the fact that they are about an hour long or of course at KCTC I have have about two hour class. This all meant that I could do what I enjoyed doing things like reading for my english class or draw for my CAD class but still get all the extra work done that went along with each

An obstacle I have encountered was my AP Calculus class. At the beginning of the course it was very difficult as my prior mathematics teacher had informed me. Besides having a big transition in the level of math, there was more to the class. I had failed the first test and was ready to drop the class. However, I was not ready to give up so I decided to keep the class and work harder. I dealt this this problem by taking more time out of my day to go over the material being learned. This meant I had to put in more time along with some of my peers that helped organize a small study group. This was an important factor in order to be successful in the class because the information being learned was difficult.…

Coming into preparing for my paragraph I had three goals; make a strong a valid point, answering all of the possible questions a reader may have, and having a structured well developed paragraph. I wanted to maitain these goals throughout the writing process. I had to do minimal research becasuse I was familiar with the topic. There are three reasons why I chose to write about the qualities it takes to be a firefighter. First, I was able to choose the topic that I was most comfortable with. Second, I knew a lot about the efforts it takes to becoming a firefighter. I had a lot of outside information that most people would not get by simply using google. Finally, I felt for the first time, that I organized my writing in such a way that the message was clear and my opinion was supported with facts and life experiences. By doing this parargraph, I learned that it was important to have an organized outline, facts that support my position and details that enhance the message. It was a very long process for online one single paragraph but it allowed me to get several peer edits and other peoples opinions to make it an exceptional reading. Allowing my peers to look at my rough draft and make corrections or suggestions was a great and simple way for me to enhance my brain into creating structure. It also allowed me to interact with my classmates and brain storm. Overall it was well drawn out process and beneficial experience. I was able to maintain my goals throughout the process and learn some new techniques and develop them into my writing.…

Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

Over the course of this year in English, I think my writing process has excelled the most along with my overall writing. In the past, I have used similar techniques to develop a final essay, but, this year, I have begin to rely more heavily on planning out and slowly chipping away at my essays and papers. I believe also that because of this planning the strength of my writing as a whole has grown. Personally, I do not think that I grew in my vocabulary usage. Overall this year, I grew as a writer in ways that I would not have predicted.…

Before starting this unit, I did not think about my writing skills or did not know everyone has a writer's identity. Initially, I did not realise emailing or texting a friend would be considering writing. I just saw it as a way to socialise with others. Having read subject content, I now understand when I construct email I consider my audiences, reflect on my writing and also editing, which are stages in the writing process as Cremin and Myhill (2012) explain. Additionally, I have discovered that participating in personal writing has helped me to develop and nurture my creative literacy. Furthermore, the personal writing task has helped me learn how to employ strategies to produce a creative piece that expresses my inner thoughts and feelings. Having applied myself…

A thorough analysis of my experience in Writing 101 taught me many things. A major takeaway from this class is never to overestimate my abilities. While taking this course, I was also trying to handle two other classes, a full-time job, and a hormonal teenager. I feel I personally overestimated my abilities. Prior to taking this course I did not have a strong background in writing or English for that matter. I honestly feel writing is my weakest subject. I know I will have to retake this course. When I do retake the class, I will undoubtedly ensure I do not have any other distractions. I must take this course as a stand-alone class. I also will make certain this be a face to face course. I feel the lessons in this course are exquisite. However, I should have asked for help sooner. I now…

Writing is always difficult and takes a long time, this is my first impression about any writing class. Not only because of its techniques, but also the language was a big obstacle. I don’t see myself as a good writer and writing for me is just a required task I have to get it done. I moved to the United States three years ago. I have taken English as a first foreign language in my Egyptian school beside Arabic --my native language--. When I moved here and started school, I placed in an ESL class for a quarter and then moved to regular English classes after that. When I start the writing courses here at UCI, I wasn’t happy about my placement. After, I was taking a regular English classes in high school, I placed in AC English 20C/D. I wished that I had gotten placed in a more advanced writing course. But after finishing these academic courses, I can admit that my enrollment was not a waste and it was the right choice. During these courses, I have improved in many different areas. Doing the essay in three drafts required me to go over and reconsider my essay…
