Demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of reflective practice through analysis of critical incidents that have impacted on your professional practice.

This assignment will critically reflect on an incident that occurred during a recent placement in a Year two class. It will begin by defining reflective practice with reference to the use of models and theories associated with this term. It will also consider some of the difficulties associated with critical reflection during professional practice. The critical incident will be analysed in relation to the impact it has subsequently had on my professional practice and how the experience relates to my understanding of learning and teaching in primary education. The hypotheses drawn from the analysis will be used to support the development of practice and how they are applied to a professional context. Complex issues around classroom management and behaviour will be analysed and evaluated in relation to the critical incident. (1985) present a model that captures the complexity of learning through reflection showing a cycle consisting of 3 separate parts with two movements. The first cycle essentially moves anti-clockwise with the learner revisiting earlier experiences. In addition to this, another cycle moving clockwise connotes that reflection is not only a retrospective process but a prospective one, allowing to try to understand the effect of the experience. The central cycle is characterised by the processes of deconstruction and reconstruction, considering the event at both and emotional and cognitive level (Appendix 3).
