Reflective Narrative: Senior Project
Reflective Narrative 1 I always knew about having to do a senior project and when it came down to it, I wanted to do something in the career I want to become. I went to my dentist to see if I could shadow them and they said no, because there was a virus going around and I couldn't be exposed to it. I tried to talk to an investigator and try to do my senior project with them since they were my second choice it didn't work out. They were always busy and everything is pretty secretive so I couldn't do it. My friend Darlin told me about how her sister did her senior project in Children's Advocacy Center and explained to me what it's about. It sounded like a great idea! I signed up

“Life starts at the end of your comfort zone.” Is a quote I have constantly told others, encouraging them to step out of their safety zones and to experience life. But I truly did not understand the meaning of that quote until I stepped foot into Delta Hall in January. I had heard about the Washington Semester Program when I came to tour UGA my senior year of high school and I knew instantly that it was something I wanted to participate in. Since freshmen year I patiently waited until I could finally apply to the program and then before I knew it I was actually in Delta Hall, starting the program. I was out of my comfort zone, in a completely new city, away from friends and family – living with 31 strangers for an entire semester and there was no turning back. Looking back on this semester, I cannot believe how life changing it…

As an executive officer in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, each individual is responsible for a legacy project during the school year. I was responsible for SOS Children’s Village which is a foster care neighborhood that houses children that were abused, neglected and/or abandoned. Even though this was a one-day experience, I was thrilled about the opportunity to work with children as I believe that no child should be denied proper medical care and a healthy home. It is said that time goes by when you are having fun. This was true for our experience as we went four hours over time. I coordinated leadership and team building activities for the children in which both the volunteers and participants enjoyed. Who knew that in five hours’ strong bonds can be developed with a stranger that you might not encounter again.…

The assignment is intended to discuss a case I worked on whilst on my final placement and use an analytic stance to discuss the interaction and interventions used with the service user. In order to maintain confidentiality and anonymity of the service users in this case study I will be using pseudonyms for all people involved and mentioned in relation to this case. The assignment will demonstrate professional judgement, accountability of a social worker and the statutory requirements of protection and intervention when working with vulnerable adults. The case study will focus on my work with Sarah throughout my time on placement and assess my principal interventions as well as locating my work within the wider discourses around risk deploying both recovery and exchange models. It will also highlight the strengths and limitations within the process of recovery. Within this case study I will aim to describe and analyse the practice, theories and values that have emerged by carrying out this piece of work. The assignment will critically evaluate my practice with specific reference to the social work skills used. By reflecting on my practice I hope to demonstrate how I have considered issues such as power imbalances and social injustice and how this consideration has assisted me to work in an anti-oppressive, non-judgemental way with the service user involved. With reference to this particular case study I will also demonstrate to the reader the power imbalance that existed between the professionals in terms of their approach. This was clearly evident in relation to the social model approach versus the medical model approach. Drawing on my observation and the experience of working within an inter-professional team I will provide critical appraisal of the issues and barriers that existed. I will also compare, contrast and evaluate the medical and social model of mental health and mental disorder by referring to appropriate literature and…

Being a big sister I have always been introduced into the basics of how to take care a children. For my senior project I chose the self-development option where I took a class at WITC on “Intro to Child Care.” The class had a Pass/Fail grading system. I decided to take the class as my senior project to expand my prior knowledge on childcare. Also I took the class to determine if I want to pursue a career in childcare so I would know what colleges to go to and what programs I would need to pursue. The initial goals I had before starting the class were to complete the class, to expand my knowledge and to decide whether or not to pursue childcare as a career.…

I did my project on my 12-year-old nephew, Jasper, and my 9-year-old niece, Jaeleen. I was a little hesitated to have patients that are young, but I was ready to take challenges. I wanted to feel like I was really a dental assistant, so I transformed two rooms in my house into dentist offices. I also had my 13-year-old cousin, Heidi, act like she was the dentist.…

I had never really discussed the Senior Project with any of the 2016 seniors, so I really did not know what awaited me. It only took a short period of time to open my eyes to the tremendous task facing me and my fellow classmates. When I started writing my research paper, the information I began collecting on becoming a high school history teacher seemed very familiar. Since both my grandparents taught school for thirty-two years, I have listened all my life to their stories about earning their teaching degrees, as well as the joys and woes of their years of teaching.…

After retaking the LASSI I have noticed a considerable amount of improvement as well as regression. In the beginning of the year, I vowed to myself that I would become a better student. I wanted to maximize all of my abilities in order to be successful. So, after I took my first LASSI and had my talk with Mac, I began to implement new strategies meant to help me accomplish my goal. First I had to deal with my anxiety. In past years I suffered with a lot of anxiety while learning math. I used to love math very much, however, this changed after my 6th grade year. Math became a foreign subject to me. I could no longer make connections and solve problems. As a result, my grades in math began to drop. As a person who is used to getting A’s and B’s on assignments, I had a difficult time in coping with my failure since it didn’t live up to my standards in the subject of math. My difficulty with math eventually caused me to have anxiety. I had carried this anxiety until my sophomore year in high school. It seemed as if no matter how hard I tried to concentrate on math tests my mind would always become blank. Luckily I had an…

Throughout the writing of my learning narrative, I realize a recurring theme in my paper. At each stage of my life I had always wanted to feel older and more grown up than I actually was. When I looked at the kids in the grades above me and the older athletic teams they seemed so much older and smarted than me. They always bragged and talked about how much harder the next grade or level was. Now that I am in college, I have realize that it is not how difficult the next level is. It is how much time and effort you want to put in to get the results you need; it is about motivation. Back when I was a child I would have looked at a nineteen year old in awe, thinking wow he must be so much smarter and wiser than me, yet now I feel that I know so little and have so much more to learn than I ever had before.…

My journey to become a Counselling Psychologist began in 2008 when as a Life Coach; I had a self referral who suffered from anxiety over his forthcoming exams in his second year at university. I started collaboratively setting goals to manage his workload and set timetable into manageable chunks through asking him challenging questions so that e can start to think for himself. He had plenty of resources namely his family, time, books but he just would not settle into coaching which left me feeling I was inadequate as a Life Coach and started to doubt whether he could manage at all. As a life Coach I didn’t have a supervisor so had no one to maul this situation over with.…
