Reflective Essay: My Interest In Softball
It was the spring of 2007 and I was in 1st grade. I had recently grown an interest in softball because my sisters were both in it at one point in time. So my parents signed me up for little league. I was super excited because I wanted to be just like my oldest sister, karri. However, I was also scared because what if my teammates didn’t like me, or I wasn’t good enough.Every sunday after family supper in the summer I would go outside with my dad and we would just play catch and sometimes I would bat a little. This became a tradition because it kept going for the next eight or nine years, and is still being continued today. I was practicing for that one shot on the best team I could get on for the school, varsity.
In the fall of 2015 I had my first high school tryout. I practiced day in and day out just like any other year. The tryouts came and I was only a little nervous. That tryout was the best try out I have ever had. After it was over I was confident in how I had done, however there was a lot of seniors and they are all guaranteed a varsity spot. The roster came out that weekend and I was looking through it and hoping my name would come, it did just to late. It

I wanted to make that one team more than ever now. Tryouts took place on a monday for me and I had an extraordinary time. I knew I had a good one, not as good as the previous year, but still pretty decent. After they were done we had to wait a week for the roster to come out. That was the most agonizing week of my life. I was unable to stop biting my nails, I was anxious and nervous. I just wanted to know so desperately. All I could think was what if the same thing as last year happens? But eventually the next friday rolled around and the roster had came out. There was butterflies like no other, no actually it felt like I had the whole zoo inside me. As I continued through the list I finally found what I was looking for, my

It was the day that I had been contemplating for weeks. It was finally my first softball game as an Outlaw, and I was as nervous as long-tailed dog in a room full of rocking chairs. I was determined to defeat the rival team as the pitcher. I wasn’t feeling very confident in the first few innings of the game. Then, it hit me. Something snapped inside of me that made me so furious that we were losing. What happened next blew my mind into pieces.…

We waited in the gym for about 4 hours, then I got hungry. I walked through the dark hallway to use the vending machine. After I got my honey bun, I walked around to the field house to see if they posted the team. They did, 14 id numbers on one sheet of paper. I looked up and down the list multiple times looking for my id number and unfortunately it wasn’t on there. My heart was broken and I was so confused. I walked home teary-eyed and when I arrived home I cried my eyes out. After that I didn’t play basketball for a whole week, which I had never done. After that week I got back in the gym, and kept playing every day as usual. I went to all of their games because I loved the sport and I wanted to support my friends. After the season ended everything went back to normal, we kept going to the YMCA every day. Now school has ended and summer league starts. Coach put me on Jr. Varsity just too test my skills and the first game, it was the best game of my life. I dunked the ball on a fast break and I couldn’t miss. I was the star player and that showed coach I was better so he put me on varsity. All in all I am just saying never give up and work as hard as you can, it will pay…

Now the end of the summer, school was about to start for my senior year I started thinking about not leaving the states to play baseball, I wanted to stay in Florida because I thought, I was good enough. At this point my summer coach was no longer at my high school, he was fired from his position because of…

Sitting in the locker room today, packing up my bags for the last time, it made me realize that my softball career is actually over. I just wanted to thank everyone who has had an impact on my softball career first starting with my parents, brothers, and other family members. Second my coaches throughout this whole journey. And third to all my teammates that I have had over the years. Those friendships are what got me through the tough times and great times. I am honored to be able to say I was a softball player at West Stanly for 4 years. For the ones who are still playing, give it your all, turn teammates into your friends, and always cherish each and every chance you get to play on that field. It's crazy how much time flies so just make…

It is the bottom of the ninth and I was last at bat. The ball came zooming towards me at a high rate of speed. The vibration of metal meeting leather rang out in my hands. No hesitation was made. I dropped the bat and ran as fast as I could to first base. My coach was telling me to keep going because the ball was fumbled. I rounded third base and my coach motioned for me to take it home with a slide. Down I went. Dust was flying. The crowd was standing and cheering loudly as the referee motions and yells, “Safe!” All I heard was screaming as dust still loomed the air around me. I could manage to see my team going wild, jumping, and screaming. Everyone seemed to be celebrating except me.…

They say if you love something then you should set it free. That is exactly what I did with softball and me. I invested so much time, effort, and money into the sport but what was I getting in return? Oh yeah, constant nagging, a ton of lies with a side of attitude, and having to regenerate a new set of lungs after every practice due to the excessive amount of running. Despite wanting to shoot myself during practice, I did take some valuable lessons away from playing softball.…

The Summer of 2014, I was a rising freshman in high school. My goal was to make the varsity basketball team as a freshman. Tryouts came along and I played JV over the summer. As I kept working during the summer and fall, the winter regular season tryouts came. I was determined to make the Varsity roster. I tried my best during tryouts, two days later the rosters came out. I read on the website, "Hunter Patterson JV." I was disappointed but knew that the coach thought that was the best fit for me.…

The dorky, round glasses settled crookedly on my face, and my poor fashion sense gave the impression of an athletic misfit. Being the smallest, most awkward student in school never had any advantages. I felt my life was full of challenges, and thus, I had to strive to prove my small stature did not hinder me in the slightest. I struggled throughout my younger years to find a sport that suited me but I finally decided to dedicate myself to the pursuit of playing college softball.…

So we kinda knew we were gonna win, but we didn’t want to jinx it and lose. We had a fantastic game and won 14-1. I had a total 0 plays out in the outfield and that sure was a whole lot of fun. I went 3-4 when I was batting which is ok but I could have gone 4-4, Since I wasn’t seeing the ball out of the pitcher's hand I was late on the ball and was all in all, a bad game. Our season was doing really well and ended really poorly, It ended by us losing 9-1, We were not happy nor were we upset that we lost. but we understood we needed to get better. Whereas High school baseball is gonna be way better cause we don’t play the same teams we play easier teams. Which is nice because we will win much easier and not have any competition. The high school team consistently wins regionals which is cool and they have been to state a couple…

Growing up I played baseball to me baseball was everything i could think of. i couldn't wait to the weekend so i could put on that dirty uniform and pick up the new bat and nice leather glove and play baseball. When i was young i played in a big park in NYC where everyone saw you play so as i grew up everyone expected me to continue playing baseball and get better and work hard my mother always signed me up for baseball and i met a lot of coaches who help me gain more talent throughout the years. So as i grew up baseball started to be more and more of a priority to me i went to baseball practice two times a week one during the week and one on the weekend and with baseball practice i attended a baseball program which is twice a week meaning less and less time for homework and time to study. that being said i believe that time management and dealing with less and less sleep is the biggest problem with high school sports.…

Baseball is a sport which involves two teams made up of, more or less, nine players. A baseball game is played on what we call a baseball field. Baseball is has been called the bat-and-ball game, in which a pitcher throws the baseball as fast and hard as he can and the batter tries to make contact with the baseball. Hitting a baseball requires hand-eye coordination. The players in the outfield attempt to catcher the ball before the batter reaches home base.…

In 2015, I realized a long standing goal of playing on the varsity lacrosse team as a freshman. In fourth grade when I first started playing lacrosse, I had always dreamed of how far I could go. That dream of mine always stuck with me and it was my motivation to continually get better. When the coaches were separating the players to form the JV and varsity teams, they called my name to the varsity side. The only freshman to be called to the varsity side for the 2015 season. I had doubt and negativity on my shoulders from the returning players just a day before and now here they are congratulating me. They acted as if they were my friends only because they saw something in me that they never had nearly as much of. Talent. My goal had been reached,…
