Reflective Essay: My Experience At 4-H.

Throughout my years involved in 4-H, I participated in projects such as showing cattle and sheep, and creating projects in areas such as food and nutrition, home improvement, sewing and clothing. 4-H projects were a big part of the experience because I was challenged to work on them throughout the entire year, so I could display my hard work at the fair. Within my club, I was actively involved from an early age. Growing up with a grandpa who was a previous 4-H Club leader, being involved was important in my family. With the support of my family and friends, I achieved my goal to be the Story County Fair Queen my junior year. After serving as the vice president of my club that same year, I was elected to be president my senior year. Considering we had a very young club at the time, I was able to be a leader and role model for the younger members. I have also continued to be involved in 4-H since graduation by helping with the Fair Queen Pageant, and helping check in lambs at the sheep show. 4-H has taught me countless lessons about growing as a leader and practicing positive citizenship skills. Through the offices I held, I learned the importance of positive, effective leaders for the youth.
I feel confident when interviewing because I am so used to speaking to “judges.” I understand how to portray myself in the most positive way because 4-H has also helped me value my skills as an individual. 4-H has also helped me succeed in my academics because I understand the importance of hard work when it comes to success. Through my activities in 4-H, I learned how to persevere, despite the difficulties or obstacles I have to overcome. I also learned how to effectively manage my time. Finally, 4-H has helped me develop positive relationships. While in 4-H, I stepped out of my comfort zone many times to meet new people, and that skill has continued to develop while in
