Reflective Essay: I Am An Inspirational Writer
Two years ago, I would say nothing in particular provokes me about writing. I would rather spend my valuable time on presentations or discussions than writing research papers. I always found myself was lost. I couldn’t focus on the content of my prompt. I failed to make my words convincing and authoritative. I am not a good researcher, also not an outstanding rhetorical writer, even today, but I did find something valuable on myself in these two years. Since I am a sluggish writer who “has to” complete everything in the last minute before the deadline, writing a twenty-pages research paper is tons of work for me. It is also very challenging for me to organize various sentences and ideas together to demonstrate my arguments. I also have some frequent problems with word choice and prepositions. Other times my instructors would think the …show more content…
Since my own story has to be designed by my own, it would become a huge sandbox full of different themes that may affect readers’ emotion. For example, I wrote an interesting story for my final paper of writing 39A. I create a hypothetic world which all donuts, one of the Americans’ favorite snacks, suddenly evaporate and disappear forever from that world. I make my story hilarious by describing people’s serious, desperate moves. The president of the United States even goes on strike because there is no donut serving on his desk in the morning for three days. I ironically make fun with people’s desire of donuts to prove my point of view --- humans may be weaker than hundreds years ago even though we have so many technologies. This story was a success, and since then, and I couldn’t control my mind to write more creative stories anymore. This course’s theme is “Video Games and Society,” a topic that the most boys would be exciting about. Although I don’t know what difficulties I will encounter in the course, I still what to say, bring it on. I am so ready for

Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

When Mrs Gamble introduced the I-Search, I already had an idea of what I wanted to do, though, not a clear one. I became excited when Mrs. Gamble was explaining the process of the I-Search, I was also trying to forget about everything my brother told me and enjoy it. After doing some thinking, I decided that I would do my research on concussions since concussions are common in the sports I play. I wanted to know not only how to prevent them, but the diagnostics and symptoms. I took quality notes and found dense sources to back up my notes. Then, I hit a fork in the road.…

When someone is doing something that they love, it is not the wrong choice no matter what anybody else says. Even if they are told that they are the worst, they should keep going because if they truly enjoy it, then the situation turns around 360 degrees around and they’ll become exceptional at it. I enjoy writing a lot. When I am writing, I feel like I can do anything. I can write about a princess trapped in a tower or a pirate searching for lost treasure. There's overwhelming choices to write about and each and every choice is infinite. When I first started writing, I was struggling. My writing was all over the place and it was just a huge mess. But, I still tried my best to overcome the obstacle and continue to do what I love doing. The end result of my pursuit was what someone can call a success, I am now in English Honours. Even though my writing skills were in a considerably poor quality, I did not give up and continued to do what makes me happy.…

Throughout the years of my schooling experience I’ve adapted a love for writing and have came to love writing essays. As students moan and groan I silently rejoice because I get a chance to express myself through writing. To me, writing is like an art people use to express things the can’t say face to face. Out of the essays I have written so far this year I definitely have my favorite little pieces. Every writer has that little ‘I really love this part’ in any of their pieces. But, altogether my favorite thing about my writing would be my creativeness while writing. In my personal narrative, titled The Memories That Make Me, the introduction states “Over the months and years, we’ve grown like a melody to its lyrics, inseparable. And now the memories stick like glue… I was almost too quick to judge.” Personally, the metaphor incorporated into the introduction sets off the paper. Towards the beginning of the year we studied origin stories. How Murder Came To Be was one of the most challenging but the…

“You can work for two hours trying to get a paragraph “right” and discover it’s not right at all. And then give up.” (Elbow 14) This is exactly how I have struggled with all of my essays. Particularly, staring at a blank paper, I cannot think of anything to write because my mind is empty. In addition, it is so hard for me to push myself to write a stream of words. Therefore, I am definitely not a writer because I do not like to write, not have writing passion, nor reading hobby.…

Before this semester started, I was sure I was going to major in English. English was second best to what I really wanted to do, write. Sadly, the only reason I took the creative writing class was because it was a core class I had to take for my major. Little did I know that my love for creative writing would soon flourish. As we drove father into the class, I realized I started to become excited to come to class. Since I was a kid, I always loved to put in a good CD and sit down at my computer to write. I wrote poetry, short stories, and even half of a book before. When I got old enough to begin visiting colleges, I debated on what I wanted to major in. Then I thought journalism, but I knew the chances of me becoming a world famous writer was slim to none. I told myself I was writing for no reason, I told myself no one was interested in my writing. Eventually, I closed my laptop and stopped writing.…

The role of writing in our society has declined tremendously. What used to be used as a means of collecting historical events or ones thoughts, has been passed off as a thing of the past. The unfortunate thing is that it is important in any aspect of your life to be able to write. “Writing is the single most important skill for students and professional success.” (Nagrin, 2012)…

In “The Maker’s Eye,” the author, Donald Murray states that “when a draft is completed, the job of writing can begin”. He explained that the major difference between student and professional writers is that professionals have mastered their skills of reading, and their first draft is always a progression of drafts. They are constantly refining their work and sharpening their ideas. As for students, they think the work is pretty much done when the draft is completed, but because writing is a complex process, drafting is just the beginning. Personally, my drafts are revised many times because I want to make sure the structure required is being followed. I believe that every step of the process needs equal attention to make sure my thoughts and ideas are well-organized thru-out the paper, stating the purpose and style and I normally start with a thesis or introduction because it takes me the…

From the outset, keep in mind one important point: Writing a research paper is in part about learning how to teach yourself. Long after you leave college, you will continue learning about the world and its vast complexities. There is no better way to hone the skills of life-long learning than by writing individual research papers. The process forces you to ask good questions, find the sources to answer them, present your answers to an audience, and defend your answers against detractors. Those are skills that you will use in any profession you might eventually pursue.…
