Reflective Account On Overcoming Distress
To correctly assess an individual is becoming distressed I would look for changes in their emotional state or body language for example; if a service user is becoming unusually irritable,angry,frustrated,agressive or violent towards myself or others I would kindly reassure them that I am here to help them and if they would like to talk to me that I am here to listen, if the individual was not able to communicate effectively I would use sign language or clear body language to point to things that I feel may be the route to their distress, once Ii find out what and why a service is panicky,sad,depressed or in distress, I give my upmost effort and try to the best of my ability to help them myself by offering a more positive assistance if their abilities become reduced I would allow them to feel in control of everything instead of feeling helpless. …show more content…
I would offer as many options or choices to them so that they feel some sense of ability and their distress levels reduce and finally if their issues were to complex and were out of my professionalism I would gently reassure the service user that I will ask my manager for further guidance and ensure the service user is able to access the required support that is appropriate to their personal
