Reflections of a Memorable Journey
A JOURNEY THAT IS WORTH KEEPING FOR…
Last September 30, 2011, the students enrolled in the course Introduction to Arts (BSIT4)/ARTS (BSBA & Educ) had a once in a lifetime experience: a journey that is worth keeping for.
The sweat, stress and all the pressures that we had during the preparation up to the performance night can be considered as a “sacrifice” na hindi malilimutan at maaalala even up to this very moment na tapos na ang performance night, dahil hindi lamang ito ginawa para sa aming mga sarili ngunit para na din sa ibang tao, a concert for a cause, which aimed to help some kids from Doña Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan.
PREPARATION:
We just had an almost 2 weeks to prepare for our performance night. Personally, I never imagine that the outcome of the concert would be that good given the fact that we had different schedules and other school requirements that has a deadline also, but because we are Citizen STI, we showed a great TEAMWORK.

Through the effort of Ma’am Mel Azarcon and all the committee head coming from the BSBA4, BSED1, and BSIT4, we made it!
During the preparation, the students assigned to supervise the stage design, tickets, program, and all the other things needed to make the concert a successful one did a lot of effort. As in a lot! Kung iisipin ang mga nagawa, talaga nakakapagod at mahirap ngunit lahat naman ng pawis at pagod na naranasan was worth it.
Some of the photos during the preparation period are shown below. You can see ang pagod sa bawat isa ngunit hindi din naman matatawaran ang ngiti sa bawat isa.

THE PERFORMANCE NIGHT
This is it, the performance night! Everyone was so nervous, from the technical team up to the committee head, hindi maitatago ang kaba pero mas makikita ang excitement ng bawat isa upang magperform at mapasaya ang lahat ng dumalo sa gabing iyon.

It took us hard work over the summer with struggles of band members' instrument being out of pitch or off timing etc. Although, it was all worth it until we heard the words from the announcer at the area competition that we can move forward state. I can remember people next me cheering and crying. In fact, this band of ours has not been in this type of event in over 33 years and it is not just significant to me but also to the band and people part of it at that time. The Oglethorpe University Singers and the Oglethorpe Chorale performed the concert at Conant Performing Arts Center on Friday, November 1, 2015, at 8 pm. The concert setting was smaller than the other venues we visited for previous concerts. The room was semi-lit, and classmates filled the concert hall. The concert conventions were not surprising as we have attended other concerts, and the conventions were the same. The Oglethorpe Singer and the Oglethorpe Chorale performance was excellent, they were in sync, and everyone did great. It was my first concert, and I was very impressed because they sounded like professional musicians.…

On Sunday April 7 , 2013 I attended the Junior Recital for Michelle Ellison (soprano) and Rachel Stanton (piano) at Oberlin College & Conservatory. Coming to my second show at Oberlin College I really didn’t know what to expect this time around. On this nice day at Oberlin College I observed many students outside playing their instruments and various groups outside singing in circles enjoying the weather. I could tell that these students were very passionate about music. Inside of the conservatory building the recital was held inside of the Kulas Recital Hall. This was my first time entering a room that was made specifically for musical recitals. The hall wasn’t too big but it was large enough to fit a nice sized crowd in a narrow room.…

My last year of band, my junior year, we got accepted into going to all-state band. I’d never done this before, so it was a whole new experience. We had been working on a bookmark piece for the entire year now, ready to perform it for competition. It was titled “Bookmarks from Japan”, and is still one of my favorite pieces I’ve heard to date. We preformed in front of four judges, and then listened to other bands. Once the awards rolled around, surprise filled the room. Our band had taken second place overall. In the ENTIRE state! I’ve never felt more recognition for hard work than I have in my life.…

Everyone in the band had one similar goal; to produce an excellent, if not, perfect marching show. Our band rehearsed the marching show day and night, sacrificing our prized hours to create a clean and entertaining show for audiences to enjoy. Water breaks were a blessing, conversations were a sin of the marching world, and mess-ups were lessons of resilience. Our band director made sure the idea of efficiency was planted…

Last day we the first year students have a special day which is the freshmen day, and for me it was fun and exciting. It is composed of nstp students in Monday class to Saturday and I belong to the Thursday group. I say that the day which is the freshmen day is fun because of the happenings that we encounter, like the beat boxers or the one who uses their voices to create mixed sounds and it was so fun to hear. The excitements are not just the beat boxers it is also the one marine engineering student who impersonates the voices of some well-known personalities and cartoon characters, it was very entertaining because he does not just copy their voices; he gives the crowd the perfect voices of them. The other things that I encounter are the different kinds of singer because when ceremony doesn’t have singing it is quite boring. I say different kinds of singer because the singers have different ways and on how the way they sing their song and on how they act in the song, some singer’s songs rock music, having a partner to blend the song and the solo singer. I also encounter one singer that impersonates also a known character in an animated movie and I think that the crowd enjoys her singing and she is the only one who have “standing ovation”.…
