I have chosen to present my reflective report using Driscoll’s model (2007) of reflection because it is a developmental model that includes all the core skills of reflection: description, self-awareness, critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis; it consists in three stages in reflecting on one’s practice: ‘what?’ ‘so what?’ ‘now what?’. These trigger questions give a broad and substantial reflective process by challenging a more in depth examination, resulting in an action plan for the future (Bulman & Schutz,…

Critical reflection is a key part of teaching and learning. As stated by Hiller, Y (2005, ‘Reflective Teaching in Further and Adult Education’ pg 20): ‘By reflecting critically, instead of continuing with our feelings of self doubt, that we are imposters in the classrooms, or that we are failing as teachers and racked with guilt, we can become positive in our search for new understanding of our practice and more ways to deal with the challenges that confront us continually. We take control over our professional practice, acknowledging that we cannot transform everything,…

Additional concepts I have been asked to consider in this assignment include Reflective- Practitioner and Practitioner-Scholar. Based on my own experience would define reflecting as having the ability, at regular intervals, to look back at the work I have done, and the work process, and consider how I can improve. Reflective Practitioner is defined by Author Christopher Johns as someone who lives reflection as a way of being (Johns, 2009).…

Reflective practice is essential as an Assessor as this leads to a greater understanding of how to improve. Self-assessment is something that an assessor should be constantly engaged in as it seeks to increase the depth of understanding of the process of assessment and a perpetual identification of gaps in knowledge that can assist the assessor and help those being assessed. Critical analysis and evaluation refocuses thinking on existing knowledge and helps generate new knowledge and ideas. Ultimately reflective practice enables an assessor to improve the quality of their performance by looking objectively at their skills and professional judgement, in both successes and failures and applying them to their continual professional development,…

Reflection is an important tool for all health care practitioners. It can improve our skills and help us understand the choices we make while in practice. Williams (2001) states that “Reflective learning involves assessment and re-assessment of assumptions and critical reflection occurs whenever underlying premises are being questioned”. Critically reflecting on events we experience will continually add to our understanding and knowledge base. “Reflection makes the practitioner mindful of their practice, encouraging analysis and increasing self-awareness in relation to our own skills, knowledge and emotions”. Price, (2005).…

The first part of self assessing me was pretty important because it was a sum of my whole lifestyle in one. Giving me an overall look on what I should change or if I should even change any of my habits. My smoking score was a perfect 10, which was not surprising at all to me. My alcohol/drug score for this was seven points because I do drink. The score for my eating and exercising habits were perfect because I do a good job when it comes to eating right and working out on a daily. My stress control score was an eight, but I do understand why. I do know that I stress to some extent. My last score was safety and the score for that was a nine. I think my life is pretty amazing if you ask me.…

Since embarking on this course, I have developed an understanding of the notion of critical reflection, in particular understanding how I have impacted upon a situation (Fook and Gardner, 2007:p27) through the unique perspectives and values which I bring to it. Understanding the diversity amongst service users and the complexity of applying theoretical knowledge to practice, has helped me to appreciate the processes involved in reflection and to make sense of my difficulties in past experience to apply my knowledge across different contexts. I have also gained an understanding of how my personality type can impact on my reflective practice. For example, as an introvert this could make the process of reflection with others more difficult, a…
