What struck me in particular as I explored the course materials this week is reading Racial and Social Justice in chapter thirteen. In my opinion, I had a negative view of President Nixon character. For instance, I thought President Nixon had a secreted agenda to gain political power by being a snake than racists, not a feminists supporter and not caring for the youth. However, I was wrong after reading section Racial and Social Justice in Chapter 13.1 Nixon’s America. For example, he supported the 1969 creation of the Office Minority Business Enterprise that aided minority-owned businesses. Including signing the Titled IX that was part of a large educational bill had banned exclusion of women and girls from any aspect of educational programs then funding for women’s athletic programs at all levels. In this case, I thought that was awesome doing so for crossing off the many issues women and girls faced. Lastly, Nixon made the action of signing 26th Amendment to the Constitution to lower the voting age from 21 to 18 years old. Forthwith, 18-year-olds were drafted into the Vietnam War during the time. Not to mention, Nixon had supported Congress in enacting a billion-dollar college tuition program under the Pell grant. Overall, President Nixon made a lot mistakes in his presidency that caused him to resign from office but he contributed so much to other programs such as Old-age pensions under Social Security, Food Stamp
