Reflection On My Reaction To Davidson's Honor Code
My reaction to Davidson’s honor code is simple, I like it. The honor code is taken seriously and it is a declaration for justice. I would hope more schools could follow suit about being strict with the integrity of their students work. If you build this type of environment where people can successfully research topics and report on them in their own words the possibilities are endless. In addition you will leave a lasting impression on the students and they will always keep these values with them in life. I’m sure all the Davidson alumni are grateful they had a school like that to teach them to do the right things.
I like seeing universities with integrity and pride in their school. The value of honesty is very important to me. Honesty is

I could have wrote something quickly on my paper and acted like I actually did work, but instead I accepted the consequences. I knew it was through my own personal laziness that I did not complete the assignment. When I received a zero for the assignment I knew it was time to make a change. Being honest ended up helping me in the long run as I learned from my mistake. An example of my life when I did not display integrity was when I saw people cheating on a test and I did not report it. I did not want to be labeled as a snitch so I just let the person go on, getting good scores but not actually learning anything. If you really care about someone learning than you would help them not to cheat. To this day if I witness acts of dishonesty I will let them go, and just hope the best for the person. It may only seem like one small grade, but if you develop this cheating complex now it will continually perpetuate itself in your lifetime. In conclusion I think Davidson has a wonderful honor code that will help everyone involved in it. Honesty is always the best policy, and will create a just environment. In life we need to display integrity even when we could easily turn a blind eye. To be better people we should all try our best to do things the right

Integrity is a new book from Mark Parker that casts a critical eye on the current state of character, ethics and morals. His premise is that these qualities are in decline among governmental, political, business, athletic, religious, educational and other leaders, and their lack of integrity is having a profoundly negative effect on our nation and society.…

An Honor Code is a great thing to have for students. It is a code where students are expected to not cheat and report others for cheating. It is a great thing to have for students because it holds them up to certain standards and shows what is expected of them. Having an honor code for Hotchkiss would improve the quality and integrity of its students. It isn't just enough having an honor code, it must be maintained and enforced. An honor code that isn't enforced would not be profitable for anyone. It isn't just enough to sign a piece of paper, although it is a good start, it should be enforced with appropriate…

The honor system reflects the image of the schools that have the system in place. The University of Virginia commit a saying to memory pledging to never lie, cheat or steal, since 1842. “It’s a tradition that’s mae Thomas Jefferson’s school a richer academic environment, students say, as well as an easier place to find lost wallets”(Source D). Integrity- Integrity is the basing of ones actions on an internally consistent framework of principles. Depth of principles and adherence of each level to the next are key factors. One is said to have integrity to the extent that everything one does is derived from the same core set values. While each other and with the persons actions that determine the person’s integrity. Integrity is the act of doing the right thing when no body’s is watching. For example, if Lcpl Smith is at the PX and the cashier gives him more money back then he should have got and Lcpl Smith corrects the cashier and gives them back the money, Lcpl Smith just should integrity. An example of not having integrity would be if Lcpl Smith on his way to work knew there was a way around all the traffic but instead of taking that faster way, he went through all the traffic just so he wouldn’t have to go right to work and told his Cpl that he got stuck in traffic.…

I have learned that being an ethical learner requires honesty. We should behave in a proper manner and make the correct choices when doing our work. Cheating and dishonesty should never be accepted even if you are falling behind with your school assignments. One thing that I greatly appreciated, when I was deciding which univeristy to attend, was how well Texas A&M expressed the Aggie Code of Honor. "Aggies do not lie, cheat, or steal or tolerate those who do." A very simple saying, but one that is heard and seen all around campus. It is tied to the university as much as the word "Howdy". It is great that this motto of academic integrity is already stiched to Texas A&M because its easier for professors and the university to promote academic integrity. Professors and the university need to continue to explicitly preach the Aggie Code of Honor throughout the semester as a reminder for students. Also one thing that students are not knowlegeable of are the consequences of acting acadebmically dishonest.…

Honor codes are extreme and far too harsh. These extreme policies ruin both the educational and future careers of students by causing them to either fail classes or be expelled from schools, making it more difficult to be accepted into other institutes and to find occupations. In some schools, for example: the University of Virginia, small accidents, such as leaving out a parenthetical citation, are punishable by expulsion (source D). Ultimately depending on how it is enforced it can help but it all rides on the consensus of the students, and while Foothills Academy should not implement a honor code there are steps that can be taken to promote academic integrity on its campus. Seminars on cheating and plagiarism should be held to have students better understand and recognize when it is happening, after-school help and tutoring should be promoted more so students don’t have to rely on cheating to get the grades they want. To actually spur a change in these students unsavory habits we need to make a change to help them in the right direction, not just make them sign a…

Some ways that my school can become stricter in the honors system are, possibly using cameras to watch kids from above as stated in Source A. The school staffs could become better at detecting cheaters. One way that this could happen is getting a computer program that detects plagiarism. What students need to know is that their name will not be brought. That is why these programs are being held up in success. Students are afraid of, “What if I get I reported on?” Cheating in schools is pretty much on-going. As Source D says, “The Internet provides a lot sources of information, and it’s tempting to simply insert phrases directly into reports.”…
