Reflection On Gsw 1110
In the entirety of GSW 1110, I have learned to write papers with a college-ready attitude. Before becoming enrolled in this class, I was not a college-level writer. Now with the knowledge and experience I have gained from this course, my papers are phenomenal compared to previous years.
Throughout the entirety of my writing career, I have been known for being notoriously bad at citing sources I used in my papers. When my junior English class was assigned to do a research paper over any topic of our choice, I chose to write my paper over violence in video games. Specifically, I did not properly cite any of the sources I used, and so I lost fifteen points off my final grade and received my first ever C on a paper. Until now, I have never properly indented the correct the lines, or title my papers the correct way. Since I am currently aware of how to properly style papers using this format, I believe this will help me with many future papers I will have to write.
On the other hand, I was always decent at developing a good thesis and carrying it out through my papers. For this reason, I knew I would not have trouble with that while taking GSW 1110. But I was ultimately bad at incorporating academic vocabulary into my papers and it always cost me small amounts of points off my grade. For example I used words such as “bad”, “awesome”, or even “lots”. Now I comprehend how to use the incredible assistant of academic vocabulary comprehensively in my papers.
There are numerous writing skills I have acquired taken GSW 1110, without taking this course, my writing may never have improved and certainly not be college-ready. Although I had the option to take regular English, I believe that curriculum would not have better prepared me for college- level writing such as GSW 1110

The five steps of the writing process are equally vital to the succession of any writing assignment, whether it is for work or school. The five stages include PREWRITING, PLANNING, DRAFTING, REVISING, and PROOFREADING. As our text (Arlov, 2014), explains, “Writing is not a single act, but a process composed of several steps,” (p. 3). Moreover, constructing a strong paper that is well-written (no matter how tedious it seems), requires efficaciously executing all five phases. It is crucial not to take shortcuts by eluding any step of the writing process.…

I have learned to evaluate sources for their legitimacy, relevance, and authority through the Colby-Sawyer’s library website. The library website has a tab on “Bibliographies, Citations, and Academic Honesty.” The website tab provides different kinds of information including: OWL examples of citations, how to avoid plagiarism, how to create and evaluate different sources/citations, and academic honesty. Also by doing multiple of these “how to cite correctly in MLA and APA” exercises really helped me learned different scenarios of how to properly cite an article.…

In high school, students would try to impress their teacher with unnecessary complex words and sentences, which could sometimes take away the message that they were trying to convey. Our mentality was that the bigger and the more complex the words are, the better. It was not so when I got to WRI 1050. I soon learned that using big words and complex sentences meant nothing if the essay lacked a strong content.…
