Reflection on My National Holiday
With the coming of national day, I have a one week holiday. I really expected to it, because I wanted to have a short trip during these days. I planned to travel to Jiuzhai Valley with my parents for three days. I have heard that the scenery of Jiuzhai Valley is very beautiful in autumn and it’s the best time to travel there. Autumn is my most favorite season so I want to enjoy the beauty of such a wonderful place. I did some preparations for this trip. For example, I search the Internet to see the travel raiders and I have known where the most attracting place is and where to live in. I was sure it will be a wonderful journey—however, everything changed when I saw the news that some of the TV series are “returning” in the latter half of September, of which my favorite “Grey’s Anatomy” is included.

Grey's Anatomy is an American medical drama television series that premiered on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) as a mid-season replacement on March 27, 2005. The series has aired ten seasons, and focuses on the fictional lives of surgical interns and residents as they gradually evolve into seasoned doctors, while trying to maintain personal lives and relationships. The title is a play on the name Gray's Anatomy, an English-language human anatomy textbook originally written by Henry Gray. The show's premise originated with Shonda Rhimes, who serves as an executive producer. The series was created to be racially diverse, utilizing a color-blind casting technique. While the show is set in Seattle, it is primarily filmed in Los Angeles, California.

The series' protagonist is Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), who originally is accepted into the residency program at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) is the chief of neurosurgery. They are the “McCouple” in this series. Grey's Anatomy is the highest-rated drama in the key 18–49 demographic. While the ratings have fallen over the past few

The only way I could reflect off of the story is how a doctor stole a bantam sample of cells from Henrietta Lacks, without her consent and telling her so. Henrietta Lacks departed from cervical cancer. This is relatable by reason of I have experienced my belongings used or taken from without being told. An example I could utilize to relate to this situation would be when I was at work and my little sister used my makeup.…

Meredith is the narrator of the show and serves as the focal point for most episodes. Pompeo's connection with Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd) is acclaimed as a high point of the series. Rhimes has characterized Meredith as not believing in good or bad, but doing what she thinks is right. Pompeo has been nominated for several awards, winning many of them, for her performance on the show. Grey has been positively received by television critics, with Alessandra Stanley of The New York Times referring to her as "the heroine of Grey's Anatomy". News of Pompeo leaving uprose when it was made clear that her contract ended after the eighth season. Speculation occurred again when Rhimes reported that Grey's Anatomy will be returning for a ninth season. George O’Malley, a beloved surgical resident at Seattle Grace Hospital, planned to join the army as a trauma surgeon. In season five episode twenty-four, the same day he made his decision to join the army, George pushed a pedestrian out of the street and in the process a bus hit and killed him. His death caused an emotional outbreak among fans across the country and devastated his close friend Meredith Grey. George O’Malley’s sudden and dramatic departure from Grey’s Anatomy kept fans interested because it created drama, and that is something viewers of Grey’s Anatomy crave. His death also left a gaping hole in the Seattle Grace Hospital community, and it created a need for viewers to see how Meredith Grey and the rest of the cast would continue without one of the primordial characters. Cristina Yang, a gifted cardiothoracic surgeon, left Seattle Grace Hospital because of an irrefutable offer in Zurich, Switzerland. In season ten episode twenty-four, Cristina made her departure for Zurich with the intention of creating the first functional human heart. Cristina was Meredith Grey’s best friend and yet another primitive character saying goodbye to the show. Cristina Yang’s departure surprised viewers, and they were compelled to keep watching because Meredith Grey’s life was going downhill, and they needed to see if she would finally get her happy ending. The abrupt revisions to the storyline of Grey’s Anatomy keep the emotionally devoted viewers engaged and ready for more…

What I mean by saying this is House goes more in depth with cases and the writers thought out the scenarios more when writing the script. Grey’s Anatomy is a very successful medical drama too, but focuses more on the relationships and personal lives of the staff at the hospital, even from the beginning of the show. House on the other hand, doesn’t get into the personal lives of the doctors for the first couple seasons. In around season three or four they start to share the doctors’ backgrounds. In my opinion the writers were clever in doing this, whether it was intentional or not. The fact that there was no extra drama or personal information added to the show cast, but it was still intriguing to it’s viewers makes it quite successful. It also is another example to back up, yet again, the fact that medical accuracy is better in House M.D. because just by having a case is enough to keep the ratings…

Even as a sophomore, I understood that helping others succeed is essential. In my later years, I have perceived firsthand how vital such teamwork is. When a patient is admitted to the hospital for an operation, the pathologists, the nurses, the physician assistants, anesthesiologists, surgeons, and pharmacists all play a vital role in the concerted delivery of health care. In spite of this, many professors at Duke encourage incessant competition between pre-med students. Many of our courses are curved, and that means that it is in each student’s best interest for his or her peers to do poorly. This is not representative of the cooperative nature of the health care professions, nor is the increased competition conducive to learning.…

This past week I had the opportunity to shadow two radiologist (whom for the purpose of this reflection will remain unnamed) at Hillcrest. After being escorted to the imaging room by a staff member, I was greeted by two annoyed grunts. Twenty minutes later Physician 1 introduced himself, and then proceeded to vent his frustration about the multiple interruptions that had occurred earlier in the day. Physicians 1 & 2 were now far behind schedule, and the emergency department continued piling on unnecessary CT scans. Physician 2 then spoke up and explained that over scanning leads to an increased work load for radiologists because every bodily structure imaged must be interpreted regardless of the relevance to the patient’s chief complaint. This…

Part A: Learning the different literary lenses will help further my ability to thoroughly analyze the literature I read. As seen with the examples used throughout the seminar presentations sometimes a certain critical theory can be used more successful for certain pieces of text. Having the knowledge of the many different ways there is to analyze a text I can choose one that will be more accurate. Also, in many cases you can use a bunch of different lenses to analyze one text, but being able to see the different views can help build a more detailed understanding. Although I was somewhat aware of certain lenses such as marxist or feminist theory a lot of the theories were completely new to me and something I hadn’t even considered. Now knowing how much the biography of the author or even the way the way the environment…
