Reflection On Cumberland's Degree In Social Work
The degree that I have started here at the Cumberland’s is a B.S. in Human Services. My next step will be to obtain my Masters Degree in Social work. At this point in time God has not told me where or in what type of setting I will be working, but he has told me that Social Work is my calling in life. This statement is the one I made at the start of the semester here at UC in our icebreaker discussion board. Its funny to look back at this statement I made, and now five weeks later be able to say that there are no longer any unknowns on were I am meant to work. After five weeks of prayer I now have it narrowed down to the type of work God wants me to be doing. Once I have finished my degree at UC I will start to look for a job as a Social Worker in a school setting as a counselor. I love kids, and fill this is the best way I can help those who cannot help their self. This is a job that I know will not be easy, and at times will be very stressful however it will be a very rewarding job and that is what will make it all worth it in the end. …show more content…
The path I have planned to take with this career is in a school setting were I would be a school counselor. This is a job that needs to be taken very serious, because for some kids the school counselor could be the only one they feel like they can turn to with their problems whether they are problems at home, or ones at school. Being able to listen is the key to this job. I feel like not jumping to a conclusions or trying to solve the problem before you know all of the facts, and actually listing sometimes is the best way to help every child deal with the problems they are

After taking the assessments the conclusion I came to was that Social, Investigative, Conventional and Enterprising Careers, might be the right path to follow in the fact that I like to figure out how things work rather than lead people, I love to be of service to other people rather than be on the receiving end, I tend to follow a set of procedural routines, however I also hate following strict rules or dealing with a bunch of paperwork....…

Next year with the grace of god, I will be attending Gordon College in Wenham Massachusetts. Gordon College is a private Christian institution about twenty minutes outside of Boston. At Gordon I will be studying pre-law and getting a Major in social work. I will be getting a major in social work while on the pre law track so that Hopefully one day I can become a family lawyer for the less fortunate. But free will gets in the way and choices are made that are not in his plan, so my purpose was not clear to me. I didn't have a goal. Amazingly, God gives us a second chance (or 2 or 20) and in our obedience He shows us what is best for us, what He wants for us. It was in this season of my life, in obedience to Him, that He revealed His purpose to me. He gave me a goal. I was at my women's bible sturdy and talking about God's plans for each of us, when my friend said that she was being called to go back to school and become a Christian Counselor for teens. She explained how her involvement in the lives of the teens at our church had greatly impacted her and the decision to go back to college and "make it official". Many months before this moment, I had been praying that He would reveal His plan for me. I had been looking for a lightning bolt, but He whispered to me, "this is what I have for you." I'm not involved with the teens as my friend is, I knew that wasn't specifically for me. But a Christian counselor, Yes, this was it! I had spent the last few months walking through a tough time with my sister, sharing tears, ideas and counsel. I had become a leader in the women's ministry at my church and grown…

What I do know is that I don't want to wake up ten, fifteen years from now with the bitter realization that I've wasted my life in a job I hate, because I was forced to decide on a career while I was still a teenager. I can only hope and pray that Jesus leads me in the right direction. But just because I may not know what I want to do in the future,it doesn't mean I don't know what kind of person I want to be. I want to be someone who helps people, someone who people can look up to, and can depend on. I feel like there aren't enough genuinely good people in this world, that they are few and far in between. The one genuinely good person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting was my mother, and sadly I won't be able to meet her for a long while. She was a wonderful woman and mother, and is my inspiration. I want to become one of those genuinely good people, like my mother, and I fell like the perfect place to discover how to become that person is at a university. The only thing I'm certain of is that I am a seventeen year old girl looking to get a good education, to learn everything there is to know about the world, and to live my life happy and without any…

I say that, because since then God has sent many signs telling me that He has other plans for me. Several Ministers whom I didn’t even know told me that,” God has a calling for me into ministry.” Even as I was growing up I’ve been told that I was called to be in ministry. I also read Rick Warren’s book Purpose Driven Life, and I realized that I went through the things I did because God has been preparing me for something greater. At the time of the test and trials I was going through I had no idea of God’s purpose for me, but now afterwards I realize that it’s not about me, but God, and the reaching souls. My direction in my studies now is for me to get my Masters of Ministry Degree following Undergraduate Degree, which I am scheduled to complete December of next…

I would like to begin my answer by stating I am an indecisive person. I change my mind more than a politician does. Anyway, at the moment, I currently see myself pursuing a career in marketing with my post high school degree. I have always be fascinated and even entertained by marketing campaigns, from television commercials to print advertisements, and I am greatly interested in the psychology behind advertisements. A marketing agent is essentially one who studies human behavior in order to best sell a product, and, with a little work, I could easily see myself both enjoying and succeeding in a career within this field. Another career I could see myself pursuing is a biologist. I love science, and biology has always has a special place in my heart. The idea alone of testing and creating new scientific theories puts me in a state of euphoria, so, needless to say, I am interested in biology. There are other careers I am considering, and, like every other student, my tastes will surely change. At the moment though, I like the idea of a career in marketing or biology. Thank you for reading, and thank you for Saturday…

Another career that would fit my post-graduation goal would be becoming a personal financial advisor. A personal financial advisor would use their knowledge of tax laws, investments, and insurance to help the client or business in financial options that would help them in either a short or long term goal. Ideally, a person would have their career goals well-defined before they invest their time and money into education or training beyond high school. In reality, however, many people choose their education or training provider without a real career goal in mind, or the goals simply change along the way. Since college can be a great opportunity to explore lots of career choices, this is not such a bad way for some people to get started. Of course, let’s hope that their career goals will materialize before they graduate and find themselves job hunting in a field that doesn’t match their skills or interests. Then there are others who do it by-the-book and set their sights on a career goal beforehand and then select their school or training program accordingly. The latter path might be more direct, but both paths can lead to the…
