Reflection On Being An Effective Leader With The Federal Government
There are two special projects in particular in which I would like to share my experiences that have prepared me to be an effective leader with the Federal Government. The results of these experiences have strengthened me both personally and professionally as a serviceman, a leader, and a team member. In addition, these experiences have resulted in followers satisfaction based on work performance and positive outcomes.

As associate development director, I served as project manager on a major grant that a university received. I provided managerial oversight of a $2.1M grant allocated to purchase abandoned and dilapidated houses surrounding the university. These houses were to be renovated and rehabilitated for qualifying low income families.

A Rubik cube is my perception for the word ‘Leadership’ and I relate its corners to the personal traits and its edges to the conceptual and interpersonal skills required to be a prosperous leader. I have aligned few of these edges and corners to my leadership domain but I intend to continue to learn and experience the remaining essentials facets of this domain to complete my Rubik cube i.e. bring the best leader out of me. To do so, I aspire to work in different environments and diverse teams and eventually mould myself to transform from a Telecom Network Consultant to a Business Leader in Telecom Network Operations. To get into those shoes and be successful, I crave to polish the following essential leadership competencies during my tenure at Anderson i.e. visioning new changes, building and managing big and difficult teams, persuading diverse internal and external work groups, motivating and coaching resources, experiencing both autocratic and democratic leadership styles, resolving conflicts peacefully and taking responsibility and accountability for my decisions.…

    Thoughts on Leadership

In Plato's “The Philosopher King,” an excerpt from The Republic, he finely draws out the kind of person he envisions would render the ability to guide his people to a flawless order. His is fearless and distinctly specifies the characteristics this leader should possess. Leadership is a challenging role to precisely define and I have found that I am yet to be able to do it. In past class discussions we have discussed as a whole what common traits we typically believe a leader should have and I rarely find myself in disagreement. It seems as if there are attributes that a leader stereotypically has, but as I read Plato's excerpt, I felt naïve and inexperienced. I started with a nod after every trait listed, thinking how dumb I was for not coming up with these myself, and later found myself shaking my head with an added “are you kidding me?” Plato defines the role of a leader to a perfect T; in my eyes at least, but it is the role of society as a whole I found myself disagreeing with.…

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I am honored to be here. Today I’d like to share with you some thoughts I have on leadership for service and virtue in action. If there’s one thing that 30 years in government service and 10 years in the private sector has taught me, it’s that leadership is for service and that virtues are for action, for the greatest leaders I have been privileged to work with have been those who had the humility to be of service to others.…
