Reflection On Being A Hygienist
This experience connects to my pervious courses. In Lisa’s class, I learned about carious lesions. I was used to seeing them in power points that I did not expect to see it in my chair as a hygiene student. Cavities look worst through the naked eye than in power points. Also, I can relate this experience to life experiences. As a hygiene student, I am being exposed to different conditions that will prepare me for my future as a license hygienist. This experience will improve my skills and my knowledge as a hygienist. Lastly, I can connect this experience to learning experiences. After learning and seeing my first carious lesion on a patient, I can’t imagine seeing them in children. My patient described me the pain and knowing that cavities

After doing an assessment on my client, I felt very sympathetic for her with her diagnosis. My client stated that she was trying all of the methods that the hygienist had recommended for her over the past years. The client has been fighting with a habit that she has numerous times tried to quit, but was unsuccessful. From her habit, her oral tissue and healing will continue to delay until she is ready to quit or seeks professional help. I let my client know that I understood her frustration and informed her that we are here to help or that she would want to seek medical help from her…

Mr. Doolittle is a resident on floor 5B at Morton Plant Rehab Center. The interview was conducted early in the morning, after breakfast, in his room (501) which he now lives in alone after his roommate, Mr. Johnson, recently passed away from a heart attack. Upon entering the room, I noticed right away Mr. Dootlittle is very neat and orderly; he directed me to sit down in a chair next to him, while he initially kept his eyes down or looking out the…

There is a stigmatism in treating individuals with HIV/AIDS but these individuals deserve compassionate oral care. A dental hygienist has an ethical responsibility to provide such care. If students have more knowledge of HIV/AIDS, the less anxiety they may have in treating such patients. Although transmission of infectious disease may be rare in the dental setting, it is important for the dental hygienist to be knowledgeable about infection control and to follow the CDC standard precautions when treating patients with bloodborne diseases. Some infection controls include routine handwashing, proper sterilization and use of instruments, use of personal protective equipment (e.g. protective gloves, eyewear, apparel, and masks). As dental hygienists, we must regard all patients as potentially infectious to prevent cross infection to other patients and dental…

There are many goals that I wish to achieve in my life. First, I want to pass my college classes and get into the dental hygienist program. Next, I want to become a dental hygienist because it is a good paying job. Lastly, I want to be able to move out and live comfortably. Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is not like the other motivation theories, this is because he believed an individual’s motives range from biological to individual to social needs. Maslow believed that an individual must accomplish the needs at the base of the pyramid first, before reaching the needs at the top. I believe my goals do align with Maslow’s theory. Passing my college classes fit in with the esteem section of the pyramid because it would bring a sense of accomplishment and confidence. Becoming a dental hygienist will satisfy the security section of the pyramid because I would be employed. Then, moving out and living comfortably would satisfy the physiological section because I would have a house which would provide warmth and shelter.…

I the practice I work for, there are two locations and each has one hygienist. I work at the Clearwater office and the other hygienist at the Tarpon office. To ensure inter-observer reliability in dental hygiene diagnosis, both office has the same types of instruments. I have to say, before I started working there, the office had old and not uniform instruments. It took me about five months to build up the armamentarium in my office. Now, each instrument kit has Metal UNC12 metal probes that I use for periodontal probing. Tarpon office started using the same type of instruments as well. Sometimes we have patients migrating between the two offices and it is important to ensure that probing is performed using the same technique (6 reading around…

When reflecting over this past semester and my time in Medical surgical three, I have seen a great deal improvement in understanding of different medical care and various conditions. I improved my knowledge through the use of assigned readings, case studies, and other different assignments. When I first began this course I had a very limited knowledge about different medical conditions and how to care for these types of patients. The first day of class I was surprised by the content and the pace it was conveyed, I was very glad that I had brought my recording so that I could catch all the information that was being taught.…

For my research paper and my interest in my future job will be Health Technicians. What Health Informatics do is manage health-related industries with information and facilities. They can manage hospitals, nursing homes, health center, and any other health-related workplace. They do a lot around the building, from checking on patients and taking reports of them to working at the front desk with the computers and phones. Working with the patients would deal with taking reports, they do not do much cleaning, but they do have to make people feel comfortable in there own room. When working behind the desk you would need to know how to manage a computer and the phones there. They could need to know how to file paperwork, how to check people in the hospital, or helping people find the room they need. The paperwork will be a big part of working over at the main desk in the hospital because you have to make…

This first clinical experience has shown me the importance of developing the nursing-patient relationship. Working with school-age children is a very different experience and requires a new set of communication skills that we have not focused on in class. It was an important step to being able to think on my feet and adapt to the situation at hand. These aspects have really helped me understand the unspoken traits of nursing and what will be expected of me.…

He is a patient who suffers from chronic asthma, GI impairment and allergic rhinitis. He has also undergone several major operations and these operations bring him numerous long-term defects, ranging from failing to have normal solid food intake to receiving long-term drug treatments. Not difficult is it to imagine he leads an inconvenient life because of his chronic illness. I do feel greatly compassionated and empathetic towards his pain. This visit is a precious experience that I can have never come across during lectures, so I cherish this visit much.…
