Reflection On A Critical Reflection
Session 1: A Critical Reflection
As I start my new educational path I found myself reflecting back on my most recent work experience. I spent six years working directly in the shadow of a very demanding Office
Manager. She received all the credit while I did all the work. Many nights I came home frustrated and in tears from her lack of respect and her threating ways. However, my pride in myself and my strong work ethics kept me going in everyday and doing the best job I could do.
This past May, due to life changes in my family, I found myself in the position of seeking new employment for better health insurance coverage for my family. This need gave me the power I ultimately needed to take that step and move on from that unfavorable situation.

This article, “The RU-486 Abortion Pill Should Be Available to Women”, was written by Laura Fraser in 2001 for the Greenhaven Press. The issue involved with this article is whether or not the RU-486 abortion pill should be available to women in the U.S.. The conclusion Fraser came up with was yes, the RU-486 abortion pill should be available to women in the U.S., and for plenty of reasons. For example, if mifepristone becomes available, it will remove political and practical barriers so women can get abortions and physicians will not have to perform complete abortions. Also, 54% of all…

After reading my first critical reflection paper the one thought that keeps scrolling in my brain is, “how naive I have been concerning IVP/domestic violence”. I remember not wanting to “label” myself as a “victim” because “I am and was not ever a VICTIM!” I was strong and able to leave that relationship so how does that make me a victim? How naive for me to think in that manner. I like to rename this “Critical Reflection Paper II, to “Enlightenment Paper”. I also have been taught a new word to replace “victim”, I am a survivor! My experience may not have been as sever as others but just the same, I am a survivor if IVP. I recall in our text, chapter 2 pg. 29, “Women’s perceptions and reactions to abuse, as well as the help available to them, are influenced by the lens through which they see the world and the intersectionality of the different cultural influences on their lives” (Lockhart, L., and Danis, F. 2010). Our experiences are defined by how we see the world, not…

A positive learning environment are trust, open communication and shared learning experiences.Trainer is one who can create a positive learning environment, which will allow the students to feel comfortable, safe and engaged – something that all students deserve. I applied some factors that build a positive learning environment. Adult learners require the learning to be relevant, are highly motivated, need active involvement in the learning process, a variety of learning experiences, positive feedback, need to be recognized as individuals with unique experiences, to maintain their self-esteem. A positive learning environment requires the involvement of learners - to ask questions and feedback, encourage discussions, group and individual activities, group discussions, visual aids, role plays. The effective trainer helps to create the positive learning environment when using a variety of techniques for providing positive feedback. To provide positive feedback is to give verbal praise, to use positive responses during questioning, recognize appropriate skills. Be sure to treat the participants as individuals when using participant names, to involve all participants as often as possible, to treat participants with respect, to allow participants to share information with others, to maintain the self-esteem of learners with reinforcing practices and beliefs embodied in the activity, providing corrective feedback in an appropriate manner, providing training that adds to their sense of competence and self-esteem, recognizing participants accomplishments.…

Of the topics that I could choose from, I chose to discuss how to reduce poverty in the United States. Poverty in the United States has been something that I have been personally hearing about since I was a child. It has always been a topic during every Presidential debate that I can remember. While growing up, I have always pondered ways of helping others that were less fortunate than myself. This had led me to believe whole-heartedly that the poverty rate can be reduced through several avenues.…

She utilizes music to teach the states and capitols so that the students can memorize. Now when I observed the lesson sequence she did. She had the students identify either the state or capitol while using a world map. The lesson started with her giving the students a colorful card that had the state or capitol on it. Then she led the students in a song about the sates and capitols. Next, she instruct each student to take the state or capitol that he or she has and place it on the map, when…

We were given an understanding of what critical thinking is, Critical thinking means a reason judgement that is well logical and thought-out it is a way of a person’s thinks in which you don’t simply acknowledge all arguments and conclusions you are exposed to but to take a different approach and have an attitude involving questioning such as arguments and conclusions. It requires wanting to see what evidence is involved to support a particular argument or conclusion. During the class, we were given an article to read, it’s about alcohol marketing. At the end of reading, we were given our point of view of what the article is about, we came up with answers such as, the evidence supporting the article was vague, no links required to back up their claims the journalist used a lot of technical things which is confusing, it is contradictive as well. The journalist who wrote this article is unknown they have not provide a solid argument due to lack of research and evidence. Later on, we start to discuss what is reading critically, the class and I came up with some points for example, why was this text written? Is it bias? What prove do they give us? Is it valid? Do they have a strong argument? These were the things we were discussing, however I feel that I did not fully understand what the information was presented therefore, I went to the library and I have picked up a booked called- Critical Thinking Skills: Developing Effective Analysis, this book has further my knowledge about critical reading, I have learned that main goal of critical reading is to recognise and comprehend the author’s purpose, to fully understand the tone and persuasive elements and to recognise bias. We also further discuss about arguments and how we can…

As previously mentioned, with time I was able to improve my research ethics skills. The next time I had a journal in which I had to do research, analyze and provide evidence, was when we wrote about our article for Project 3. In this journal I talked about Nicholas Kristof's article, "5 Reasons to Vote Trump". I believe this journals shows my growth in regards to research because the things that the above journal lacks, are included in this one. In this journal I included evidence and a detailed analysis. I also made sure to cite my evidence the best I could, which I failed to do in the above journal. Although there is room for improvement I feel as if I have a better understanding about research…
