Reflection of Studies
Another semester begins and I am off to a somewhat rocky start. Looking at this semester where I will be doing two courses CCNA 2 and Effective communication. In CCNA, I have not only grown as a network technician and a student, but as a person as well. I feel that through my experience of these Networking courses, I have gained the knowledge and confidence it takes to attack those certifications.
To be quite honest, all my academic life, I have never considered the thought of being a network technician or manager; however, I recently realized that the skills you acquire in networking courses will be extremely beneficial to you. Whether it is setting up a network for a small business or working for an IT company.
As for Effective communication it will be a good challenge for me seeing as my writing skill has taken a serious nose dive, after all it has been two years since I have done any expressive writing. Although, I always enjoyed writing, I would often find myself frustrated considering I had the worst case of writers block. I constantly felt that I did not know how to write “correctly,” which caused me to begin to despise writing all together. This semester I look forward to whatever challenges Miss Johnson throws at us, in the end it will help me to grow as a

What is reflective practice? In short, it’s a practice that helps you become an active learner. Many of us, including myself, may be considered or interpreted as passive learners. Passive learning goes a bit like this: we read textbooks, we follow everything our instructor or teacher tells us (sometimes we tune out), we write exams and then…we forget what we learned. It’s common and though not everybody goes through this, historically, it happens more often than not. However, with active learning we engage in conversations with our classmates and teacher, we ask questions, we figure out answers, we contribute and learn and teach each other. And ultimately, we engage with ourselves (and seldom tune out as a result). Oxford dictionary defines reflection as “a serious thought or consideration…an idea about something, especially one that is written down and expressed”. Reflective practice facilitates coping. From a personal perspective it is different for each of us like writing personal journals or talking on the phone with family/friends. From a professional perspective this is usually mores structured like when we complete our weekly log after a clinical day and reflect on what occurred during our time on the unit and reflect on a single moment and how we felt about it.…

I was given the opportunity to work with a fourteen year old girl, whom I shall refer to as ‘S’. She is the eldest daughter of a lone female parent with alcohol misuse problems. Her mother and younger sibling were previously referred to the agency and as a result are now receiving support. S also has a thirteen year old brother who receives support from agencies relating to the youth justice system. In light of this S had been perceived as coping well socially and academically at school and within her family home. However as work progressed with her mother, my practice teacher felt that S was taking on a lot of responsibility and was perhaps internalising the emotions this was creating. She had also been reported on a previous occasion to the social work department on a suspicion that she was a young carer.…

After 11 years of being out of high school, I finally decided to go to college. I was extremely nervous when I made the decision to get a higher education because of the huge space in time between high school and now. William Cobbett once said: “you will never know what you can do till you try.” I can honestly say I have taken that to heart, because I didn’t think I could do college, but once I tried it, I found out that it wasn’t near as hard as I thought it would be. I have overcome many challenges and obstacles throughout this semester. English composition 1 taught me a lot of verbal corrections along with how to set up Microsoft Word the right way with double spaced lines, times new roman and font.…

Teaching can be challenging and rewarding if you enjoy what you are doing, if you don’t enjoy what you teach then it can become boring, it soon rubs off on your learners and gives the impression of “If the tutor isn’t interested, then why should I be?” It can also be boring, but this is where the challenge begins to make it fun so that the learner understands what is being taught without loosing interest quickly.…
