Reflection Of Student Students: Goals And Responsives
WEEKLY GOALS AND SUMMARIES

Goal One: Try the strategies discussed in last weeks goals with Student R.

Accomplished: Student R was much more responsive this week than the past few weeks. I would like to think that it was how I was approaching him, but it could also be a situation he was experiencing personally. I have come to realize that not all reactions from students are because of how I have dealt with them. Some are because they are tired, stressed, or having a difficult time adjusting to something in their personal life. I did use the strategies that Mrs. K suggested, but also casually discussed with Student K and a few other students about how the brain absorbs information and is malleable. That it really never “gets full”.

He quite often gets mad or upset in class when something is not going as he expected. I have discussed Student J’s previous reactions with Mrs. K and she had some great theories that put his behavior into perspective, but nothing concrete. Because of her observations, I chose to take a very gentle approach with Student J. I am not sure if he came running towards me as a choice when he was asked to join the class or leave, or if it was the only place he could find to hide. Since he was beside me, I took the opportunity to quietly suggest that Student J step out of the class to regain his composure. I am disappointed that he had made such a commotion when he got up to go out into the hallway. I am not sure if there was a better way to handle the situation. He just seemed so angry. Enhancing C3:sets goals for further growth, I will research other option on how to handle anger in the classroom. Maybe I can find other tools that could be …show more content…
I noticed that he only had the markers for FREE with no other clocks found. He tried to cover his board. I made a comment that he had an unlucky bingo board and that maybe we should trade his in for a different one. He agreed, so I went and grabbed him a different board. We listened to Mrs. K call the next bingo time, and sure enough Student L had it on his board. I noticed that he could not find the correct time. I cheered loudly and said that Student L finally got a marker on his board and pointed at the correct clock. Student L smiled and put down a marker. I then went to assist more students but came back periodically helping Student L out when I saw a correct time on his board. When the students went out for nutrition break I mentioned to Mrs. K that Student L was not able to find the correct time on the board. She thanked me and said that she will set up review for

I approached the teacher before their next lesson and explained how the children took time to process instructions and that if they were laughing and joking about it would take afew minutes to calm down and get focused on what was required next. The teacher glared at me and then very sharply told me not to tell her how to do her job. I was mortified .I explained i was just trying to point out how they reacted and felt when she shouted at them for not instantly stopping and getting on with the next task. I apologised if she felt i had offended her. At the end of the lesson, she came over and said she was sorry for over reacting, and now realised i worked with them more than she did, and actually had a point, and she would allow time for them to settle. I feel that by me not getting into a confrontation with her made a lot of difference, and we was able to sort the problem out sensibly.…

    Gary Gossman Essay

Gary was more than proud of the fact that he gave his students a quiz everyday in his Latin class so that they would remember what they had learned the day before. Gary also wanted his students to apply what they were learning to the real world. While interviewing my grandfather he said, “In American Government, I never gave a student an A unless they did at least two ‘A projects’.” These “A projects” were simple things like interviewing a local politician or going to a town meeting. Gary confided that discipline had been the hardest part of being a teacher for him, but he always had the best strategy for dealing with rowdy students. His plan was extremely simple, “if a student would act up in class I would say, ‘that is a great point. Maybe you should stay behind after the bell so that we can discuss it’,” this phrase would make the color drain from even the worst troublemaker’s face. Unlike his co-workers when he first began working, Gary refused to yell at or hit any of his students. In his forty-two years of teaching, the idea of it never crossed his mind. Being a teacher takes a lot of patience, and just as his father always said, “just know you are smarter than the kids, and that you have more experience than…

Green. The educator imposes his will on the student in Plan A and ignores the problem in Plan C. On the contrary, Plan B assumes collaboration between the teacher and the student to find the solution of aversive behavior. Plan B could be Proactive, used before the behavior arises again, and Emergency, used while the behavior is occurring. Plan B includes three steps: Empathy, Define Adult Concerns, and Invitation. In the provided observation Ms. Ghedina utilized Plan A, she consistently told Jaime to stop moving, and comply with her rules. Nonetheless, it did not produce the desired effect. Jaime kept defying her authority. Plan B in this situation would be the most appropriate because it will allow to find underlining causes of deviant…

Does the students’ behavior affect their academic success? I think that a person’s behavior or habits does affect their academic success. I will provide information that proves that behavior does have effects on a student’s success. I think the easiest way to communicate my findings is to list them briefly in point form. I’m going to take time and space to list these because other students may be interested in these details. I will discuss the main findings and their implications below and if you want to skip these individual findings I will understand (Morgan Chityo).…

    My Influences

The memories that stand out are times where my emphasis on discipline, combined with emotional support and validation, produced not only behavioral changes for the better but also a palpable sense of appreciation from my students. If I am remembered by any of the children I hope that what they remember is my emphasis on the guiding idea that “it's alright to be mad but not to be mean.” The most noteworthy activity was to sit down one-on-one in a supportive, nonjudgmental atmosphere free from punishment or shame where we would talk about what they were going through. In an imaginary world we would give free reign to what they were feeling. Here, aggression soon turned to sadness and remorse, often followed by dramatic behavioral changes where defiance and acting out ceased, replaced by a sense of normalcy and harmony with the rest of the class. The children seemed to intuitively grasp and appreciate the idea that feelings are all right, it’s what we do with them that can be troublesome. It did not take long before the children became comfortable expressing feelings to me directly.…

B.) The frustrations that I had was when I was teaching the little boy how to respond to his teacher in a respectful way he was being rude to me as well. I also got frustrated when I was trying to teach him how to understand his math better, he would get off track easily, and would also be rude to me saying “You don’t got to help me I know what I’m doing”. But I continued to help him; the more I helped him, the more respect I received out of him. I had to have patience with him because I wanted to walk away. Another frustration I had was that the teacher rarely had things for me to do. Some days I would just sit there and do nothing.…
